北美工程師在家工作的一天｜我自己的真實版

Usually when I wake up and sit in front of the computer, the first thing I do is to check the stock market. The US stock market starts at 9:30 in the evening in the East Coast area. It's about the time I wake up. Because of the big auction of technology stocks, I was adjusting my window position a while ago. I adjust my buy order every morning.

Next, I will spend about half to an hour to watch the news and sometimes look at the company's financial statements to understand the market situation.

I've been looking at housing lately. I want to go back to my old school and buy an investment house in Waterloo to collect rent. Because the interest rate is super low now, plus I think the inflation will be very serious in the next two years. Real estate is a good refuge against inflation. So I've been spending time to look at it. And I'll spend some time talking to my realtor about the countermeasures.

Actually, I made two offers last week. I didn't buy both houses. 11 people bought one of the houses. I thought, "Damn, the market is too hot now." So I hesitated. At the moment, I'm focusing on investing in stocks. Although I believe investing in real estate is a good opportunity now. Because the whole world is printing banknotes. So you can see that the inflation will be very, very serious in the next two years.

You might think that talking too much is wasting your time. I think it's quite meaningful. Because I think that if you only have work to do, it's quite sad. It's helpful to spend more time with people you know and work with. I think it's also a good way to make friends. At least everyone is working now. There's a way to socialize with people. I think it's good.

I usually have lunch at 12pm, but I don't know what lunch and dinner are because it's 3pm now. I usually check if there's anything to eat in the fridge or have a snack if there's no takeout. While I'm grilling my salmon, I'll do some stretching exercises or exercise my lower body core.

These are all my chiropractors told me to do. Because I sit on the chair for a long time, so the posture is actually quite important. But I don't have the correct posture for about 90% of the time, so I occasionally have to exercise my core to make my lower body muscles support my body enough, so I won't cause my posture to be incorrect.

I would spend half an hour before closing the US Securities and Exchange Office at 3:30 pm to see what happened to the stock market today and see what I need to adjust. I usually read some news and see how much I made today and how much I lost. It's not that important because I buy stocks mostly in the long run. I don't plan to sell it in the short term. I used to try to do day trade, which is to keep an eye on the market every day.

I have an interview today. Our company has expanded very fast. Since March last year, I have been working at home in North America. Our company has hired 350 new employees. They are all like me, I have never met any colleagues in person. More than a month ago, we just announced a new round of $300 million in financing. So now it's a crazy hiring mode. I will be in the position of engineer and manager.

It's almost 2pm now. I usually try to schedule all the meetings before 2pm. So I have my own time to work after 2pm. My work content and my job's direction is to make sure that the project I'm responsible for can be done on time in terms of technology and implementation.

I'm working on this project with 3 other engineers I'm responsible for the design, planning, risk and safety considerations and distribution work Then I split the project into small tickets and put them in Sprint So we know what milestones we need to complete every 2 weeks and who is responsible for which part I will use this time to write the program, write the test and hope that I won't be disturbed during this time Of course, there will still be a lot of messy things to deal with

I will block the time at 5:00 every day on my form to do code review. It means that no one can disturb me or invite me to participate in a meeting at this time. If you don't know what code review is, it's actually when all the engineers write code on their computers and merge them into our code center, not only do they need to pass all the tests, but they also need the approval of other engineers. The purpose is to ensure the quality of the code.

I will use this time to check and approve other people's codes and provide suggestions for modifications. This is a very important part because everyone is very busy and no one has the obligation to approve your code. But if everyone is more busy and does not help others, the quality will become very poor. Or if no one reviews, the code will not be able to enter and the project will be delayed. So I will definitely spend time forcing myself to do this. It's a bit like saying that I will help you review today and next time you can help me review. This concept of mutual help.

It's 6pm now, it's also the evening, it's also 9pm when I'm here. I'm almost done with work and it's almost time for dinner. I have to order takeout every day, not because I don't know how to cook, it's because I really don't have time. But our company's welfare is actually pretty good. There used to be a restaurant in the office of our old Jin Shan headquarters, but because everyone is working from home now, the company gives us $20 a day for food and lunch, so I think it's pretty good.

After dinner and watching Netflix at 10pm, I spend about an hour of weight training. I can't compare to before. I think I'm really thin now. I used to stay in the gym for 2-3 hours a day. But now the gym is closed and open. So I can only train my biceps and shoulders.

At 11:00 PM, I will continue to do my own business for about 1-2 hours. In addition to that, I also help some small companies with technical inquiries. They are old customers, so I still help them with some things. But I hope to spend less time on my own project. Because I think it's impossible to scale the money you spend in an hour.

Alright, that's about it for today. At 12pm, I'll probably call my family to talk about the summer, and keep in touch with them to tell them that I'm still alive. I don't think anything is more important than family.
