Nuking My Friends over Minor Disagreements

Howdy gamers, I'm back on my second

episode of Nuclear Option. In today's

episode Oh, oh, okay.

Wars in Nuclear Option can't be won

easily by simply bombing the enemy's

base. To cut through lines of air and

ground-based defenses, it's won by a

mixture of electronic warfare,

air-to-air combat, gun runs, and

those.

Have a small disagreement with your

friend? Toss a 250 kiloton destroyer of

culture at his doorstep. If his SAMs are

down, you will know based on the

friendly little kill feed at the top

left corner looking like burnt peanuts

chat on a slow day. They are not They

are not getting intercepted. I've played

this game for 100 hours now, and I feel

like I've barely scratched the surface

on the strategies and depth in this

game. And since I last played, there was

a big update with the new cluster

dispensing GBM-500 LR glide bombs, naval

frigates with active radar SAMs, new

reconnaissance and logistics systems,

smarter AI, but all of these pale in

comparison to the massive change in this

update.

Grass. No, like just grass. Like we had

nukes and all that boring stuff in past

updates, but now we

we have grass.

Uh oh, I forgot one more thing they

added for this update. Here I thought I

played this game a lot. I have barely

scratched the surface. [music] Makes me

think a low-level swing-wing bomber like

the F-111 style would be sick as here.

First reply, you won't believe this.

Sweeping wings, nuclear payloads,

air-to-air and electronic warfare

capability, and once it gets up to

speed, it's fast. Mach 2.5 fast. [music]

And because of that, at max speed, most

missiles fired from it are also breaking

speed records, too.

>> The Alcyon AB-4 is a monster. It's crazy

expensive to buy, crazy expensive to

lose, a high-risk, high-reward

supersonic deep strike stealth bomber. I

have two things I like about it. Uh one

is that when you pull the eject button,

it doesn't just eject your seat and your

co-pilot seat, it ejects the entire

cockpit from the rest of the plane. And

then also, at Mach 1 and above, the

vertical stabilizers in the back

actually fold down like my cat when he

goes zoomy mode. I swear, carving

through valleys in this game while

dodging SAM sites with nukes in the back

of your cargo bay is the perfect blend

of the best feeling of high-end flight

sims after plugging in my HOTAS, head

tracker, kicky footers, but also brings

that arcady ease of access vibe that I

felt the first time I booted up Ace

Combat 4: Shattered Skies on my

PlayStation 2 as a kid. I think I was

listening to a lot of like new rock back

then at the same time. You know, I

wonder if I can officially license a

song from that time for this specific

video to get you in the headspace. Uh

it's it's probably like too challenging

and expensive.

>> Another massive change this update is

something given to the humble cricket,

the CI-22. And it's a gimbal turret on

the bottom. It's 20 mm and it can lock

on and shoot at things by itself cuz

technically the cricket is a tandem jet.

You have a co-pilot and a pilot, like a

weapons officer. So, I can just with my

head, like look over and click something

with my head tracker, and then just

start pulling on the trigger or let the

trigger fire when it wants to because

it's it's smart, and it will start to

track a bandit and shred him. It is a

huge buff to the cricket. The cricket is

goated now. The cricket, at this rate,

the cricket next update's going to be

able to drop nukes. Like there's there's

no going back. Even in PvP, I just

locked up an A-10 who was trying to do a

little

sort of action, and then I hit him with

the

Hitting him. Hitting him.

He's got to be below us.

Oh, look at him taking damage. Oh, his

left wing came off. That was

Dude. [laughter]

Goodbye.

Goodbye. Look upon my works, ye mighty,

and despair. Yeah, the the damage in the

game is like the opposite of an HP bar.

You hit somebody in the right spot with

the right round, and it will kill them

or it will break apart the aircraft or

it'll break a piece off, and then that

piece being off the aircraft will change

the aerodynamics and make them crash.

Watching slow-mo crashes in this game is

like watching a BeamNG car crash, but

with a helicopter. So, it's like the

insides of the aircraft are all

realistically simulated. Like, the

actual warheads are inside of the bomber

planes if you zoom in and and look at

them. It's It's really cool. So,

whenever a missile hits them or they

like kiss the ground or something, it's

cool to watch just the dynamically flip

it around, fire, burnout three takedown

moment. Helis can still spawn on the

ships even if they're going under, which

is wild. Like, until they're under the

water, it will let you spawn on the

aircraft carrier. I watched like a a son

leave his father for the last time.

There's like a simulation of the air

capsules of a ship that are imploding

under the water. And so, when a ship

goes under, it'll keep puffing up bursts

of air.

So happy I'm married. Imagine a girl

being like, "What are your hobbies?" And

I'm like, "Oh, I like looking at the

bursts of air from ships in a video

[snorts] game

when they sink. Spam it. Spam it, IG.

Spam it. Hold Hold it. Hold it. Hold it

down. Hold it down. Just hold it. Oh my

god.

>> Wait, IG maybe cooking. He maybe

Oh. Oh. Yes, I got something. You got

the whole front of it. All right, we do

it again. Run it back. Run it back. Run

I went on a tangent about the damage,

but the point is is that the cricket is

actually really good now. And uh you can

do a run in it, then get on the compass,

and do a run in that, and then you

basically can have access to air-to-air

jets, and that's where the game really

opens up. Because the game mode,

especially in PvP, is very very diverse

in actually what role you can play. You

can play a ground pounder, you can be

focusing the enemy SAMs, doing

suppression of enemy air defenses, you

can be trying to take out their

factories, which is where uh either

their ground vehicles or their actual

airplanes get made. So, if you don't

want the enemy to have as many Ifrits as

they are using, then you can purposely

find the Ifrit factory and then bomb it

and then they'll not be able to make

Ifrits anymore. But, to do that, you

have to take out the air defenses around

the factory. Is it going to be your job

to do that or is it going to be someone

else's? But, what about the enemy jets

that are in the area around that

factory? Is it your job to kill those

jets or is it somebody else's?

>> My gosh, I tore him up. You've got to

look around the battlefield and see kind

of what the weakness is in your team are

and then try to fill in the gaps because

if you don't fill in the gaps and let

one plane through

One of our air bases just got nuked.

Oh, our air base just got nuked.

So, in nuclear options escalation mode,

you start off with lower tier planes.

You can either purchase a compass, which

is like a lower tier subsonic fighter

bomber, or you can requisition for free

the cricket. Well, the cricket now has

that 20 mil cannon, the gimbal cannon on

the bottom. So, of course I'm going to

take it if it's new, it's fun. I'm going

to take it. But, my mission at the very

beginning of this is basically to kill

as many targets as possible in a single

run and then land back safely without

dying.

By landing safely, you also gain rank

points, which can further your ability

to requisition better planes for free

instead of manually buying them. And

then also for each kill, you also get

some money as well.

The closest enemy air base is 10 mi

north. So, if I want to level up and try

out that new Alcyon AB-4, I'm going to

have to do some grinding.

Yeah, they're launching a ton of

missiles at this convoy in front of us.

I'm going to try to get close to

airstrip and launch 48s at it.

I think I I think I took off from the

like southern airfield, so I'll be a

little later. Or I chose the southern

airfield, I should say. Is Is that an IR

scan? Oh, it is.

Okay, I might have to shoot that.

I've got the radar up on the hill. I'm

going to shoot

down at that.

>> That's quite a few, but these are kind

of slow at that range.

So, they may intercept that. We'll see.

Ooh, UH-90.

See if we can get him with the 20 mil.

intercepted it last time. I'm not sure.

Luckily, you can always read the kill

feed at the top left.

And then, little Comanche or Shikane.

Looks like a convoy here on the west I'm

going to try to hit. I never even saw my

48s get intercepted again. I'm not sure

what's happening to those.

Gosh, I am lighting him up. And his

rotor's gone. Look at that. That's so

cool.

The convoy, we'll see how this goes.

Oh my gosh, there's a whole convoy here.

I'm going to get hit by flak, no way.

Okay, I did pretty good.

I have 15 rounds left on my 20 mil, but

I do have 50 cows. Oh, foo, you're over

here on the left. I'm going to try to go

for that radar on the left side of our

objective, apparently. Well, that's

interesting. The 20 mm just targeted an

AA system when I was in close proxy.

>> Without being targeted, yeah. Yep.

You can toggle that off, but it will uh

it's technically the second guy in the

plane or something, right? Yeah, yeah,

this is a co-pilot plane. It's a tandem

plane.

Yeah, the Cricket, that's a massive buff

to the Cricket. It is insane how good

that is. Like, you can fight hellies

with it really easily.

You can fight other Crickets with it.

You just have to have them on your belly

side of your

your your sphere. Just nose up when a

dude's coming straight at you, let the

AI do the work? Yeah, people don't know

yet, either. It's impressively powerful

against players. You might see that I

switched planes based on the cockpit

there. And if you're familiar with that

look, that is the cockpit style of an

A-10. Do you know the front glass of an

A-10 is supposed to I think it's rated

to take 50 cal rounds. I think it's the

one bullet like glass that's ballistic

in the cockpit. It's that front flat

facing glass. Uh but the A-19 Brawler is

a turbofan version of the A-10, and it

is very, very proficient at doing its

job, which is ground pounding. I'm

loading it up here with a loadout that's

not just 16 AGM-48s, which are little

small Mavericks, but these are the

full-size AGM-68s. They're faster, they

dodge a little bit better when they're

going into the target, and spamming them

off of this thing is just hell for any

air defense. It overwhelms with pure

volume. It's awesome.

I'm going to barrage their airstrip with

68s here in a second. Hopefully make

sure that we can push them back a little

bit, and then I'll start trying to do

some bombing runs on their vehicle

depots or something.

So, I'm trying to get better

>> keeps stealing my kills. I'm trying to

get better at this game mode, cuz the

game mode moves fast. You have to like

it's kind of like almost like RTS fast.

You have to be like

working at peak efficiency to win

against the AI, cuz the AI will

outnumber you with extra planes.

So, you have to use your time super

wisely.

And 68s out.

Those are pretty fast relative to the

48s.

And I can carry so many of them. I think

I had what like 12 or 16.

Ooh, taking a little stinger though.

The kill feed at the top left is telling

me that I'm doing pretty good.

It's a little LCV.

It's even a 35 mm. So, this

there is a Gatling you can put on this

uh that actually like fires like the

actual A-10. It's like a center line

pod, but the

the inline 35 mm is really good by

itself. Uh-oh.

And that's what I used right there. I

think it's a double It's a two barrels

on each side of the nose, I'm pretty

sure.

Kind of like a hog, I guess, right? Like

two tusks.

Fox two on Cricket. I think he's going

to flare that though.

Psych, you got to

I love that destruction model, man. I'm

going to try another pop-up attack on

this western cluster.

Ooh, radar guided.

Notch it, jam it. And ooh, get into the

notch a little bit more. And we're in.

We're fine. Yeah, that's the power of a

brawler. It can just carry so much

weaponry that man, if you get one within

your lights at all

I think I wiped

most of that airbase.

I'm going to try to come in a source

with that airbase on the west in the

A-10 thing.

Yeah, I'm going to pop up attack just as

many targets as I can and then pull

back. Yep, that's what I just did.

feel a little more comfortable. Their

air defenses should be quite lower. I

need some money.

>> As the round went on, I did a few more

runs and was able to get up to a good

enough level where I thought I'd have

the AB4 Alcaeon unlocked, but I didn't.

But, I did have the Dark Reach. Dark

Reach is so big and fat and slow that it

has a lot of options for what bombs you

want to bring. And I thought to myself

that, hey, I want to hit an airstrip. I

want to hit a big base. Uh, let's get

the Dark Reach out. Let's get tons of

small little 250 long-range glide bombs

into it. Uh, but then also, what if I

mixed in two nukes? So, I'm going to

spam their air defense, overwhelm it

with volume of all these little just

sing- standard glide bombs. And then,

I'm going to also yeet off two nukes in

the middle of that volley.

Don't hit the brakes, fool, whatever you

do.

And then my 250 kilo or I think

There's an anvil there. If we can take

out that anvil that's just across the

bridge on the north side, there's a

recon truck and anvil there, that would

be dope. Holy Drew. You're making

it close on the trees.

plane. Yeah, it's all Oh, actually,

there's nothing you can control on the

ground, but there are ground targets all

fighting as well. So, there's like SAMs

going off.

And you're just Okay. Cool.

>> Tanks and all kinds of stuff. Yeah, like

there's a convoy right there of vehicles

doing their own thing and eventually

pushing enemy bases.

After a couple more runs in the Dark

Reach, I was able to reach level six.

That is what is required for you to

requisition the Alcyon AB-4 aircraft.

And really quick before I get you into

the just the more gameplay of this

plane. So, a lot of the rest of this

video is gameplay. It's not a single

role airplane. It's actually, because of

its armaments especially, a very diverse

kind of mission-based aircraft. You can

have it to do long-range suppression of

enemy air defenses or you can have it be

kind of like a missile truck for

anti-air, like killing other planes in

the distance. Um but, it's supersonic

and stealth capabilities definitely lean

into that stealth bomber. Let's fly

around the edges of the map and and jump

you in the dark or from the dark. And

let's just look at the weaponry here.

Let me just show you all the weaponry.

We have Fox 3s, we have anti-rad

missiles, we have ASMs, these are cruise

missiles, anti-ship cruise. These are

the 500-lb glide bombs from before that

have cluster munitions that pop out of

them. Uh that is a bunker buster. This

is a 500-pounder. These are 1.5 kiloton

nukes. These are 250 kiloton nukes.

These are just standard bombs. These are

standard glide bombs and those are

rockets, like HE, big missiles,

ballistic missiles. On the wing pylons

here, which are the only thing that's on

the external part of the aircraft, you

have either nothing to be slick and keep

your radar cross section down or you You

have anti-rad missiles, cruise missiles,

piledrivers, or radar jamming pods. The

ability to have jamming pods by itself

is really cool. This means that you can

one, bomb something and then two, jam it

as the bombs are flying in. That is a

huge advantage, especially with this

thing's speed. That means you can come

in from really far, really fast, bomb

something, and then escape. So, every

run in this video is a different run for

different purposes, and I have different

loadouts based on those purposes. Did I

mention this game is $20?

I might be able to get there before Oh,

if I can get there before the nukes hit,

I can soften it up and those nukes will

wipe them out. This actually may have

been

They just need to set up a fully

automated system

for the US Air Force where you can just

fly like basically a

not like a drone, but like

actually pilot one of these bombers and

just send

send gamers to the Air Force.
