Today's topic is seven reasons
to visit Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu,
this masterpiece of Inca architecture and
engineering, combined with the
spectacular natural environment that
surrounds it, makes it one of the
dream destinations worldwide. The
Inca city of Machu Picchu is one of
the few masterpieces that has not
suffered alterations from the Spanish, from
time, or from climatic phenomena
due to its location in a
remote corner of the
Cusco cloud forest.
The best adjectives have been used
to describe its beauty and
monumentality; however, it seems
these always fall short, so all that's left to
say is, you have to see it! In
this video, we'll tell you seven
reasons why you should visit
Machu Picchu. Why you should
revisit this Inca city
nestled in the Peruvian high jungle. Let's
begin. 1. Its recognition as a
world wonder. Perhaps the most well-
known reason worldwide is that
Machu Picchu was chosen as one of the
Seven Wonders of the Modern World on
July 7, 2007. This event, organized
by the private company New Open World
Corporation, allowed people from all
continents to choose
their seven new wonders, just as there
used to be seven wonders in the
ancient world.
In addition to this recognition as a
wonder of the modern world,
Machu Picchu has been on
UNESCO's World Heritage List since 1983.

Machu Picchu is recognized
as a mixed World Heritage Site because,
after its abandonment following the fall of the
Inca Empire, the growth of
vegetation and its isolation ensured
the preservation of its
architectural attributes. Although the design,
materials, and structures have undergone
slight changes, the conditions of
authenticity have not changed.
Archaeological excavations and
conservation interventions have
followed international practices and standards
that have maintained its
attributes as part of a whole
natural and ecological ensemble.
Machu Picchu is part of an
internationally renowned protected natural area, well-
known for the presence of various
archaeological complexes throughout
the protected area. Declared a
historical sanctuary by the Peruvian government, it possesses significant
environmental value with forested areas,
steep mountains, and snow-capped peaks. It is an area
of interaction between the Andean and tropical zones,
forming part of a narrow
transition zone between both ecosystems. Furthermore,
Machu Picchu has garnered numerous
accolades over the
years,
awarded by
prestigious magazines, travel guides,
events, organizations, and institutions. Among these are titles such as
one of the
most amazing places in the world, one
of the ten most
representative constructions in the world, one of the best
destinations in the world to visit, one of the
most photographed places
globally, and many more that would make for
a long list. Finally, as an interesting
side note, Machu Picchu is included
among the 22 national destinations in the
Peruvian version of Monopoly. The
Inca city, a wonder of the world, is the
most expensive property on the
game board. 2. The Inca Trail. The Inca Trail is
one of the routes of The most famous train in
Peru and the world, this route is
located within the area of the
Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.
Beautifully paved paths form part
of the great Inca road network,
which spans more than
30,000 kilometers across South America.
The journey begins at kilometer 82
of the Ollantaytambo-
Aguascalientes railway at a point known as
Piscacucho. To reach Machu Picchu,
this section of the Inca Trail
covers approximately 45 kilometers, traversing
spectacular paths through a succession of
ecological zones where we find
Inca archaeological sites such as Pata
Llakta, Uncura Kay Sayak, Marca
Phuyupatamarca, Wiñay Wayna, and Inti Punku.
There are many variations of the Inca Trail
that combine with other routes, but the
classic route lasts 4
days. There is also a
shorter route that lasts only 2 days. The route includes
Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain.
Contemplating Machu Picchu from the summit of
one of these two mountains is the most rewarding experience. A
masterful end to a trip to this wonder
of the world is found
from Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu
Mountain, offering unique and
indescribable views of the imposing
mountain range surrounding
the area.
Unlike Machu Picchu itself, which stands
at 2,430 meters,
Huayna Picchu reaches 2,720 meters, and
Machu Picchu Mountain climbs to 3,000 meters. This
difference in altitude
makes them the most
spectacular viewpoints of Machu Picchu. The
hike to either of these two
points is approximately 2 km of
constant ascent. On Huayna Picchu, the
slopes reach up to 30
degrees, while on Machu Picchu
Mountain, they reach up to 60
degrees.
The duration of the climb varies depending on the
traveler's pace, taking between
2 and 3 hours at a leisurely pace. [The following sentence appears to be unrelated and possibly from a different source: "It is
one of the energy points of the
planet.
Energy points on Earth are
places of convergence between the
electromagnetic lines that cover the entire
Earth's surface. These points are
analogous to the chakras in the
human body and..."] Therefore, these are
special places to connect with the earth,
recharge, and balance the energies of the
physical, mental, emotional, and
spiritual body. These mystical places, due to their
great energy charge, help us
reconnect with our essence and with
nature.
Many say that whoever visits these
geographical points is never
the same person again. This energy flows
throughout the Inca city of Machu Picchu.
Some tourists and visitors claim
that there are places in Machu Picchu where
this energy can be felt more
strongly. It is known that the location where
this
Inca site was built was not chosen
randomly; rather, it was carefully
selected, as were the structures
found throughout the
city. This incredible magnetic energy
that attracts people from all over the world and
makes everyone want to return to
recharge with it has an explanation.
According to scholars of
Kundalini energy, the spiritual energy that originated in
Tibet over 2,000 years has been
transferred to this part of the world and emanates
from Machu Picchu, making it the
magnetic center of the earth.
They also assure that the energy of Machu Picchu
will remain in this place for the
next two thousand years. Over
time, the
Earth's magnetic energy will move to
Australia.
Many testimonies from
spiritual visitors agree
that simply placing your hand
on the Inca walls or the different
monoliths allows you to feel the heat
emanating from them. Concentrating further, you
can feel a great tingling in your
hands—that is, the energy coursing through your
entire body.

5. Landscape Engineering:
Common sense would suggest that the ideal location to
build a sacred city, a symbol of the
power of a great empire, would be a
flat and stable terrain offering
firm foundations. However,
research by the Geological Society
of the USA reveals that Machu Picchu was
built on geological faults.
Real Domenech, a geologist at the
Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in
Brazil and author of this research,
used satellite images and
field measurements to map
a dense network of faults and fractures in
the terrain on which the
Inca city was built. The data shows that these
faults range from cracks in some
stones to lines of 175 kilometers. The
length of some of the
river valleys surrounding the area is marked by
several fractures that coincide with
the main faults that gave rise
to the Central Andes Mountains
over the past 8 million years.
Some of the faults run
northeast-southwest, while others tend to run
northwest,
forming an X shape with
Machu Picchu at its center.
Manigat's analysis shows that
several buildings, staircases, and
urban sectors of Machu Picchu, as well as the
surrounding agricultural fields, were
built following the orientation of
these X-shaped faults. This pattern has also been
observed in other Inca cities such as
Ollantaytambo, Pisac, and Cusco itself.
Thanks to the faults, the terrain offered
large quantities of fractured rocks
that could be moved, something that was
common in the area. This helped the
Incas because the rocks were easier to carve
and position. Furthermore, thanks to earthquakes,
the rocks were perfectly
fitted into place. On the other hand,
Manigat asserts that the network of fissures
also served as a
water supply and that the tectonic faults in the
area channeled meltwater and
rainwater directly towards Machu
Picchu, for example, served as
drainage channels without the need for them to be
built.
National Geographic Traveler highlights the
landscape engineering skills of the site in
Match Picture.
The buildings, walls, terraces, and ramps
reclaim the steep mountainous terrain
and allow the city to blend
naturally with the rocky cliffs
on which the agricultural terraces are located. These terraces
preserved the soil,
promoted agriculture, and served
as part of an extensive
water distribution system that conserved
water and limited erosion on the
steep slopes. The imposing
architecture of Machu Picchu comprises
approximately 150 structures. Its
stone constructions did not use
any type of mortar to join them; they
were cut so
precisely and fitted so
tightly that not even a needle could be inserted
between them. This great work of
architecture and engineering has
as its main structures the
Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the
Condor, the Hall of the Three Windows,
and several peripheral buildings,
many of which have been reconstructed
to give a better idea of the site. There
is also a temple
located on the other side of Huayna
Picchu,
popularly known as the Temple of
the Moon.
The native flora and fauna of the
Machu Picchu area are
another
reason to visit. Among the
flora are large forests of
native trees such as the quebracho, the alder, the intima, the cedar, the
knight tree,
and above all, more than 340 species of
orchids that have caused great interest
among botany enthusiasts. The area of the
Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu
is also a habitat for insects, including
more than 300 species of butterflies,
as well as birds and mammals, among which
the Andean bear, also called the spectacled bear, stands out. It has
occasionally
been sighted in the archaeological complex itself.
In its high jungle forests
or cloud forests, one can also
see the Andean
cock-of-
the-rock, the national bird of Peru. Other animals found there include the
river otter, the
sword-billed hummingbird, the
Andean guan, the dwarf deer, and the Andean fox. The Andean condor and
the torrent duck,
due to its strategic location between the
Andes and the Cusco Amazon, its
landscapes and colors vary with each
season across its more than 32,592
hectares. The landscape is
systematically associated with the
archaeological complex in a
mountainous region where no one can remain
indifferent to the genius of this
creation.
Within the complex, one can closely observe
the ever-photogenic llamas and,
if one is very lucky, capture
the curiosities of the aforementioned animals
in the surrounding area. Machu Picchu
has received the Safe Travels seal.
Amidst the difficult circumstances
the planet has been experiencing due
to the pandemic,
the Safe Travels
stamp, the first international safety and hygiene certification for global tourism, has been awarded to Peru and, consequently, to Machu Picchu. This certification
was created to help the
responsible and safe restart of
tourism worldwide.
With this certification,
the
biosecurity protocols offered by Peru
in response to the pandemic are accepted and approved. These protocols
are designed with guidelines
provided by the World
Health Organization and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Regarding disease control and
prevention, it's
worth noting that the Safe Lids seal
is backed by the
World Tourism Organization, with over 200
seals from leading
business groups in the sector worldwide.
This recognition was received by
Peruvian authorities in an
official and lavish ceremony held in
Machu Picchu. Therefore,
a comprehensive health policy has been established in Machu Picchu for
tourism to restore
confidence among travelers.
Beyond these reasons,
each individual decides their own
true motivations for
returning to this
wonder of the world.
Words cannot describe
Peru's main tourist destination.
As the poet Pablo
Neruda immortalized in his verses,
Machu Picchu represents the dizzying convergence of
a
mythological god, an esoteric architect, and a
nature marvelously intertwined
with the clouds, transformed into the work of
Peruvian builders, a dwelling place for
condors, and a perpetual challenge to the
human imagination.
