If you make any mistakes in your resume, someone else will check it for you. I think it's a good way. I started writing my resume in my first year of college. Because we had six internships in the engineering department, I started writing my resume in my first year. Of course, the first version of my resume was really bad.

After a few years of work experience, I slowly modified and improved my resume. I think this version is my favorite so far. I want to share with you my resume for this version. Although the resume is really one person only, some people think it's better to write it like this, and some people think it's better to write it like that. This resume allows me to get interviews with Google, Facebook, Amazon, and many other technology companies. So I think it still has a good reference value and I hope it can help you a little. In today's video, I will share my resume first.

The top left corner of my resume is my name. Below my name, I will put my school, major, school, and timeline. I know some people will put their school below or in the middle of their resume. I put it here because there are two points. The first point is that I think my school has nothing else to write. I don't have to write what I got, I don't have to write what I studied.

And then I basically have a university degree. So I think the easiest way is to just put it here. The second is if I have only one line to write, I think it doesn't make much sense to put it in the middle or below. I'll just put it here. It will let you see very clearly that I graduated from this school and graduated at this time. Then, on the right side of the resume,

If I save this resume as a PDF, I can directly go to the website by clicking on it. It will open the browser and jump to the website. I think this is a good user experience for the person who sees your resume. As long as he sees this blue, he knows that he can click on the link. In my work experience, I also turn every company into a link. You can jump to the website of that company directly and see what that company does.

The next part is the most important part of the resume, which is my work experience. I think work experience is the most important thing for me. If you think there is something else that is more important than work experience, you can put it in the front. Work experience is the reverse chronological order according to the latest time. The first part is my title, the second part is the company, and the third part is the place of work. Because I am working remotely in Seattle now, so I put Washington Remote here.

The company is in San Francisco. So I wrote the real location of the company here. In the second line of every work experience, I will put what technology I used in this company or what technology I used. For example, here I write Node.js TypeScript React, PostgreSQL, and AWS. I know many people will put skill sets or what language you used or what technology you used at the front. That's fine, but I personally prefer this way.

The main reason why I did this is because you can clearly see what language and technology I used when I was working here. Of course, if you don't think it's necessary, you can put everything in the front. Then I will list what I did in my work.

It clearly tells me everything I need to know. What I've studied, what I've worked on, what I've worked on recently, at what time, at what place. Then all the titles, and then slide down directly. You can see the side projects. Then I used to be an intern here. I think this is the best way for me to present myself now. What about the following methods? I summed it up. I think it can make your resume better. The first is to cut short. I know a lot of people will want to put everything they've done into each project.

Every moment you're proud of. Even when you were in elementary school, you have to put in the champion of the dodgeball competition. You have to know that the interviewer will probably not spend more than 30 seconds on your resume. Especially the one who picked up the useless resume in the first round. He has to look at hundreds of resumes every day. And every resume has some messy stuff in it. I believe he must feel very awkward in his heart.

If you really have a lot of things to write,

You can write two pages, it's okay. But two pages or more is too much. Because five years ago or older experience may not be so important. I think as long as you list your position and company name, it's okay. Maybe the most is to give a summary of the industry. The second is not to put unrelated things. If you apply for a position today, for example, you won the champion of swimming in Germany when you were in school. Some people will think that he speaks three languages very well.

Even though it has nothing to do with work, I still have to write it down. If you are a software engineer in the United States, who cares if you speak Chinese or Spanish? Of course, if the company's business makes you say Chinese is an advantage, I think that's another situation. Of course, you can write it down. Most software engineers, the real thing is probably the project you do, the technology you use, the influence it brings to the company, or your contribution to the team, or your leadership.

This is a red flag.

The next tip is to focus on impact and try to quantify your impact. What does that mean? Instead of using Java, HTML, SQL to create an app that can automatically order lunch for employees, you can say that you have developed an internal automatic order machine to greatly improve the morale of employees inside the company, increasing the efficiency of employees by 3% per day. In the next 30 years, you can save 80 million for the company.

The obvious difference is that instead of simply describing what you did today, like writing a diary, you have to try to interpret it as what you did today, how much impact did it have on the company and the team, how much impact did it have, can you use numbers to measure it? You can say how much money you saved for the company, how much money this project can help the company in the future, how much efficiency can be increased, how much is the market's final market share rate? If you have these numbers, you can immediately show what your real impact is.

How big is it? What if you don't know how to find this number? Or you can't find it at all. Just guess it. You can guess it. Or google it. 30% 60% What's the difference? You don't even know who will be able to verify these numbers. Right? Right? The fourth one, you need to know how to pack yourself. You can be a little exaggerated, but don't lie. You can say that because you did this project, the whole company has increased 30% of the profit or saved 50% of the cost. Although this project may have another 100 engineers with you.

But because you are involved in this project This is your project Don't be shy Don't think that it's just a screw It's not that important Because after all, a resume is a gift packaging paper The better the packaging paper, the more people want to guess this gift Of course, everything is based on you really doing your own thing Don't write things you haven't done on your resume Some people will think that they have done something else Transfer it to your resume Anyway, you probably know what he did Just pretend to do it yourself

与其用这些词汇来描述你自己 你应该想怎么样在你的履历上面 表现出你有这些quality 而不是用这些没有意义的词汇来叙述你自己 假如你带领过一个团队 把原本需要花一年的时间做完的project 用了半年时间就做完了

From this experience, you can see that you are capable of leading a team. You are a very efficient person. You can get shit done. These are qualities that you can show without any special explanation. The sixth is not to write a cover letter. Or some people will write a cover letter in front of the resume.

I think a simple and clear resume can represent everything to you. There is no need to write a cover letter. The first one is a waste of time. If you write a cover letter, basically every job, every resume you apply for, you have to write a cover letter. If you want to write a more general version, then change the company's name or position, it's really better not to write. It's easy to see that it's a template. In this case, you are wasting that person's time. Besides, even if you really write it, I don't think there are many people who will read it.

I never read these things myself. We hire people who are software journalists. We don't know which experts to hire. And even if we hire experts, I can see it from your resume. There's no need to know how much you want to work for our company, or what your pressure plan is, and all that crap. Of course, there are still some exceptions. If there are some things you want to clarify, or you think you can't communicate this thing clearly in your resume,

you can write a cover letter. For example, if you are applying to work in a high-secret place like the Ministry of Defense, and then maybe because you have some background, maybe when you are doing a personal investigation, there may be problems. You can tell in advance on your cover letter. In this special case,

I think you can use cover letter. Otherwise, try not to waste each other's time. The last one, I would recommend using Google Docs or similar services to save your resume. Now, in this era, no one is using Word. The advantage of using Google Docs is that you will never lose it. Another advantage is that if you use Google Docs, you can turn it into a sharing link. In this way, you don't have to send a real PDF doc to others every time.
