0:01

in today's episode I'm going to teach

0:02

you how I would begin trading if I were

0:05

starting over today from zero now this

0:07

is actually a question that a lot of

0:08

Traders ask me they'll say Ross if

0:10

you're starting over as a beginner how

0:12

would you ensure that you made your way

0:15

to trading with consistency and

0:16

confidence without blowing up your

0:19

account we know the majority of Traders

0:21

lose money so is the N9 out of 10

0:24

traders who lose is it is it just the

0:26

luck of the draw that some succeed and

0:28

others lose or is it that the 10% who

0:31

succeed are doing some specific things

0:34

differently from the rest I'm in a very

0:36

unique position here as the head of

0:38

warrior trading and by putting all this

0:40

content here on YouTube where I'm able

0:42

to see the comments from traders who are

0:44

both very successful and from those who

0:46

struggle in fact I've been able to

0:49

aggregate all of what I think are the

0:51

causes of failure down to two very

0:54

specific reasons that people will lose

0:56

money in today's episode I'm going to

0:58

share those reasons with you and I'm

1:00

also going to share the seven steps that

1:03

I would take if I were starting over

1:05

today okay so the first step is

1:09

understanding The Phases so Step One is

1:12

phases I want to understand the phases

1:15

of learning how to trade most beginner

1:18

Traders go through a learning curve that

1:20

looks a lot like this there's a period

1:22

of what I would call a little bit of

1:24

beginners luck where they make a little

1:25

bit of money maybe you put $1,000 in the

1:28

account and you end up going up to 1,500

1:30

or something like that but then

1:32

inevitably there's reality reality sets

1:35

in and you end up drawing the account

1:37

down maybe you draw it all the way down

1:38

to 200 bucks who knows maybe you even go

1:40

negative and you have to add more money

1:42

into the account to keep it above zero

1:45

so you keep adding money and adding

1:46

money whatever the case is this is sort

1:49

of that early phase one and this is

1:51

where the market is extremely humbling

1:54

you're going to learn all the things

1:57

that you don't know about trading you

1:59

don't know how to use level two you

2:01

don't know how to read Candlestick

2:02

charts you don't know how to choose the

2:04

strong stocks to trade you don't know

2:05

how to use hot Keys you don't understand

2:07

the market makers it's this that and the

2:08

other thing and you feel overwhelmed and

2:10

for some people this is where they bow

2:13

out they say you know what this is not

2:14

for me I'm out of here so if we did a a

2:17

graph here we'll do it in a different

2:19

color this is 100% of traders who begin

2:23

on day one and now we're going to start

2:25

tracking the drop off so probably right

2:27

in here you've already lost 20 % of all

2:30

the possible Traders they've given up

2:32

there so now you're down to 80% and this

2:34

is I'm just speculating but this is

2:35

where people are just giving up they're

2:37

like you know what I've been doing this

2:38

for this period of time phase one I'm

2:40

done I'm out of here so they don't ever

2:42

move forward to phase two phase two is a

2:47

critical and very interesting period

2:49

where you are a break even Trader being

2:52

a break even Trader is highly underrated

2:56

now I understand you're thinking I

2:58

didn't spend all this time time studying

3:01

the markets and learning to trade just

3:02

to be Break Even but break even means

3:06

you're treading water and if you're

3:07

trying to learn how to swim what's the

3:09

first step it's keeping your head above

3:10

water so if you can tread water if you

3:13

can hold your own that is a really big

3:16

indicator that you're building a

3:17

foundation because what it shows is that

3:19

you're able to make money but what's

3:21

most likely happening is every few weeks

3:24

maybe even once a week you're giving

3:26

back what you make so how many of you

3:27

have experienced that you have three

3:28

four nice days and you give it all back

3:30

in one bad day three four nice days and

3:32

you give it all back in one day that's

3:34

that break even phase and even if you're

3:36

in that phase but you're slightly

3:37

negative you're losing a little bit more

3:39

than you're making so you're kind of

3:40

still losing you're proving during this

3:42

period that you actually do know how to

3:44

make money because on the days you're

3:46

green obviously something is working so

3:50

this is phase two it's where I would say

3:52

you're a break even Trader phase three

3:55

is when you begin to pull away you start

3:58

essentially having having longer

4:00

stretches of green days before these red

4:02

days and your your p&l just starts to

4:05

slowly move higher it's not anything

4:07

crazy but it's moving higher then you

4:09

have what I would call phase four P4 and

4:13

that is your first real draw down after

4:16

having some success you have a little

4:18

bit of success and then you begin to

4:19

lose a little bit of money so let's say

4:21

you start with $1,000 you drop down to

4:23

200 you made your way back up to, 1500

4:26

and then you drop back down to 1,000 and

4:28

this is the point again where through

4:30

this are you'll have more people that

4:32

drop out maybe now you're down to 50% of

4:35

Traders maybe even less who knows right

4:37

we've lost a lot of Traders along the

4:38

way just through this period of time

4:40

because it's taking time and you're not

4:42

seeing immediate results the thing

4:44

that's frustrating about trading is that

4:46

the results come over time they don't

4:50

come right away you have to spend time

4:53

paying your does gaining educated

4:55

intuition learning the fundamentals of

4:58

how the market works the basic knowledge

5:01

so if you don't understand the phases

5:03

you're much more likely to give up early

5:06

because all you see is well I'm just

5:08

losing and you have nothing to picture

5:10

you don't have any kind of vision of

5:11

where this could go if it gets better

5:13

you're probably just visualizing it's

5:15

just going to keep getting worse but

5:16

recovering from your first draw down so

5:19

we have our first draw down here and

5:21

recovering from that first draw down is

5:23

a massive important moment because once

5:27

you've recovered from that first draw

5:28

down you now are beginning to to do what

5:31

I would call stair stepping up you have

5:33

some pullbacks and you'll keep moving

5:35

higher and you're now on your way to

5:38

long-term consistency you didn't know at

5:41

this point right here that that was your

5:43

Turning Point you'll only know that in

5:45

hindsight once you've kind of had this

5:47

push higher you've pulled back and then

5:49

you've recovered so this is the area

5:52

where I'm really interested in helping

5:54

you guys because a lot of you are still

5:56

in P1 if you've even started trading

5:58

you're still at the very beginning where

6:00

you maybe have had a little beginner's

6:01

luck or that luck is running out and

6:03

you're right here I want to help you go

6:05

to the next phase so if it's from P1 to

6:07

P2 or P2 to P3 I want to help you make

6:10

that transition so the first step of

6:13

learning how to trade is understanding

6:15

and recognizing these five phases P1

6:19

through P5 the five phases because by

6:22

understanding The Phases you can better

6:23

identify with where you're at in your

6:25

current journey and once you understand

6:27

where you're at you have some kind

6:29

context of where you're going this is

6:32

the problem for a lot of beginner

6:34

Traders when they jump into the market

6:35

and they just start losing money they

6:37

get frustrated they get deflated and

6:39

they give up and it's not necessarily

6:41

that they lose a lot of money they just

6:43

lose enough where they're like this

6:44

isn't worth my time so 6 eight weeks you

6:47

know two months three months later

6:49

they're like I'm done I'm giving up and

6:51

you know what some of those Traders

6:53

probably had the potential to become

6:55

very successful if they had had the

6:58

vision of understanding what this

7:00

learning curve actually looks like

7:03

there's so many people out there that

7:04

say you can learn how to trade in 14

7:06

days do this follow this boom boom

7:09

you're done and it's not like that so I

7:12

really encourage you to think of trading

7:14

as a marathon not a Sprint so you're

7:17

going to have periods in this Marathon

7:19

that are very difficult but you're also

7:21

going to have periods where you start to

7:22

feel like you're really gaining momentum

7:24

and you've got a little bit of a

7:25

tailwind and all you have to do right

7:27

now is maintain discipline and hold your

7:29

course okay so step one is understanding

7:32

the phases of trading step two is

7:37

understanding just the general concept

7:38

of how trading Works uh so this is what

7:42

I would call um the education phase so

7:45

this is where you're gaining education

7:47

now I actually um just this week I went

7:49

up to Vermont to visit an old friend I

7:52

haven't seen him since we couldn't

7:53

remember if it was 2007 or 2008 so 15

7:57

years was the last time I saw this

7:58

friend he was my best friend friend when

8:00

we were growing up he lives in

8:01

California now but he came home to

8:02

Vermont cuz he wanted to see his old

8:04

neighborhood so I drove up uh to visit

8:06

with him and as we were sitting talking

8:09

he was asking me about the trading stuff

8:11

and I thought man I wish I was recording

8:13

this right now cuz the questions that he

8:15

was asking and the conversation it was

8:18

perfect for a beginner aspiring Trader

8:21

and so what I want to do is I want to

8:23

kind of give you the chance to listen in

8:26

on that conversation and so he was

8:28

asking me questions like um like Ross

8:32

high level what is it that you do like I

8:35

don't even really understand it and so I

8:37

explain that as an active Trader what I

8:41

am essentially doing each day is I'm

8:44

looking for stocks that have volatility

8:46

I'm looking for stocks that are moving

8:48

quickly that have the potential to move

8:49

quickly and I explained to him that

8:51

typically you know why would a stock go

8:53

up 30% or 50% in one day it's because it

8:56

has breaking news so what active Traders

8:58

are doing is we're trading volatility in

9:01

the market and it's typically associated

9:03

with these breaking news catalysts now

9:05

during really hot markets we'll find

9:07

that we'll get heightened volatility

9:09

even when the Catalyst isn't clear like

9:11

what we saw during GameStop and with all

9:14

the meme stocks some stocks start just

9:16

going up because Traders are jumping on

9:18

it and that in a sense becomes its own

9:21

Catalyst which is fine but for my

9:24

strategy I focus on trading stocks that

9:26

are within a very set price range that

9:29

have a news Catalyst that have a float

9:32

and all of this was the result of an

9:34

extensive amount of well I guess you

9:37

could say just trial and error in the

9:39

market so I'm going to put a link it's

9:41

going to be pinned at the top of the

9:42

comments and link to the description and

9:44

it's a link where you can download my

9:46

strategy it's my small account strategy

9:49

PDF and that's going to outline for you

9:51

my stock selection process where I'm

9:53

getting in where I'm getting out and

9:55

it's it's the highlevel blueprint for my

9:57

strategy so phase two is developing an

10:01

understanding of the general concepts of

10:04

how the market works and you know sort

10:06

of here it's

10:09

terminology terminology and of course

10:11

I've got a lot of breakaway classes here

10:13

on YouTube that go into these various

10:15

details so we we talk about terminology

10:17

we talk about um

10:19

volatility supply and

10:22

demand supply and demand we got to uh

10:25

understand basic uh fundamental analysis

10:28

fundamental analysis is understanding

10:30

the news headlines and their context

10:33

we've got technical analysis so I'll

10:35

just do Tech a I should just do ta I

10:37

don't want to do Tech anal so um ta

10:40

we'll just do Tech analysis right there

10:42

um this is understanding how to read

10:44

Candlestick charts so if you don't know

10:46

how to read Candlestick charts I have

10:47

Breakaway episodes that are full hour

10:49

length classes on how to read

10:51

Candlestick charts how to read

10:53

Candlestick chart patterns how to read

10:55

supply and demand how to perform stock

10:57

selection so stock selection here is

11:00

another part of um I would say the the

11:02

basics of how trading works the right

11:05

types of stocks to trade so this is all

11:08

of the kind of peripheral information

11:10

that you need to understand you know

11:12

trading platforms how to actually buy

11:14

and sell and a lot of it is fairly easy

11:17

to learn now for me I'm the type of

11:19

person that I really like to learn by

11:22

doing so when I was learning how to

11:24

trade well I I kind of did what I'm

11:27

going to tell you not to do I funded

11:29

account with real money and I start

11:30

pressing the buy button but by doing

11:32

that I invariably had to learn things

11:35

like the types of orders to use the

11:37

difference between limit orders and

11:39

Market orders the difference how to use

11:41

level two you know like all of these

11:44

sort of little nuances and I learned

11:46

those by looking at YouTube videos or

11:49

looking at the documentation for the

11:50

platform that I was using so you know I

11:52

was able to pick up all of that

11:54

information but sort of throwing myself

11:57

into the platform forced me to to learn

11:59

now I'm going to tell you you don't need

12:02

to do that with real money you can gain

12:05

that same experience and all that

12:07

knowledge even by setting up a simulated

12:10

trading account we'll talk about that in

12:13

just a second all right so so step one

12:16

is understanding the phases of trading

12:18

step two is learning uh the fundamentals

12:20

the the basics of how trading works and

12:23

for those of you that are in a place

12:24

where you don't understand some of those

12:26

then I encourage you at the end of this

12:27

episode to go check those Breakaway

12:29

classes where you can fill in those

12:31

details number three is um

12:36

adopt a strategy now the reason I'm

12:39

using the word adopt a strategy is

12:42

because I don't think in this day and

12:45

age is honestly realistic for a beginner

12:48

Trader to try to create their own

12:51

strategy from nothing in fact I think

12:54

that that would be a really inefficient

12:55

way to approach trading if you look at

12:58

other businesses in the world it's very

13:01

uncommon that a business pops up that

13:04

has never existed before you know like

13:06

an Uber or something like that usually

13:09

most businesses are variations on

13:11

existing businesses that are just done a

13:13

little differently or a little bit

13:14

better think about coffee shops coffee

13:16

shops have been around forever Starbucks

13:18

wasn't new they just took it to the next

13:20

level Dunkin Donuts I mean you've got

13:22

all these different coffee shops so it I

13:25

think of trading in a similar way that

13:27

the trading as a strategy like the

13:29

strategy that I trade this is basically

13:32

something I've spent a lot of time with

13:34

trial and error developing but there's

13:36

no reason that you have to go through

13:38

that same trial and error when I'm happy

13:40

to share my strategy with you it's like

13:43

trying to reinvent the wheel if you go

13:44

through all the trial and error now if I

13:46

put up on screen share here um you can

13:49

see uh I'm going to pull up my metrics

13:52

here really quickly because one of the

13:53

things that I think is really important

13:55

is that you make sure if you're learning

13:56

a strategy and you're going to adopt

13:59

someone else's strategy that the

14:01

strategy that you're learning is proven

14:03

profitable because there's a lot of

14:05

people out there on social media on Tik

14:08

Tok and Instagram and whatever else

14:10

talking about a strategy they have but

14:12

then you ask them well where are the

14:13

broker statements can you show me how

14:15

much you've made what are your average

14:16

returns and they don't have any of that

14:18

so I just want you to know for those

14:20

that don't already I have my statements

14:23

audited at the end of each trading year

14:25

so this is 2017 18 19 20 21 22 2 23 so

14:29

you've got seven years six seven years

14:31

here of trading broker statements

14:34

audited where I started with $583 in my

14:37

account beginning balance and the

14:39

account has produced a total profit of

14:43

$1,719 th000 for an average monthly

14:45

return of

14:47

$127,000 and average percentage return

14:50

of

14:51

64% each month I will tell you right now

14:54

that my results are not typical you

14:57

shouldn't expect that you'll achieve

14:59

achiev the same performance that I

15:00

achieved however if you want a strategy

15:04

that actually works I'm happy to share

15:07

my strategy with you again the link is

15:08

in the comments it's a PDF that you can

15:10

download you can print it out and you

15:11

can just start testing it out now that

15:14

strategy is a blueprint it it is not

15:16

enough by itself to make anyone a

15:20

profitable Trader you need the rules but

15:23

you need more than that so let's jump

15:25

back to the Whiteboard here so when we

15:27

talk about step three adopting a

15:30

strategy when you adopt a strategy again

15:33

whether it be from me or from someone

15:35

else you're taking a strategy that

15:37

someone else has proven is profitable

15:40

and that it works for them how do you

15:42

know it will work for you that's when we

15:45

go into step four Sim trade trade in a

15:51

simulator the strategy right practice

15:54

that strategy prove to see whether or

15:57

not you have the app

15:59

itude and just the physical skills to

16:01

trade it because ultimately being a

16:03

Trader it requires an ability to have

16:06

the discipline to follow the rules of

16:07

the strategy but there are certain

16:09

aptitudes that you'll need you'll need

16:10

to be able to execute orders fairly

16:11

quickly you'll need to make sure that

16:13

the tools you're using the platform

16:15

you're using work for the strategy

16:17

you're trying to implement so now I'm

16:19

going to share with you the number one

16:21

cause of failure that I've seen over my

16:24

years for beginner Traders the number

16:26

one cause is that they don't have have a

16:29

strategy that they're trading they don't

16:32

have a system they don't have a set of

16:35

rules all they have really is a little

16:38

bit of gut intuition they're doing a

16:40

little trial and error and in in other

16:43

words in my opinion they're gambling in

16:45

the market so they'll throw a little bit

16:47

of money on this stock a little bit on

16:48

this stock but they don't set stops they

16:50

don't really know where where to get out

16:53

they they are really just following and

16:55

chasing the market it is not reasonable

16:58

to expect that you'll be able to make a

17:00

six figure seven figure annual salary in

17:04

the market without first putting in the

17:07

time to create a business plan because

17:10

that's what a strategy is it's a

17:12

business plan it's going to lay out for

17:14

you the time of day you trade the price

17:16

stocks you trade how you find those

17:18

stocks what chart patterns you like

17:20

where you're getting in where you're

17:22

getting out if you don't have all of

17:24

that written down how do you expect to

17:27

outperform some of the best traders in

17:29

the market or the best hedge funds in

17:30

the market now I don't outperform some

17:33

of the best I'm in the top right I I'm

17:35

certainly in the top 10% I'm a Trader

17:37

who's successful I've made it but

17:39

there's obviously traders that are going

17:40

to be better than me your goal is just

17:43

to get yourself to the point where first

17:44

you're treading water and then where

17:46

you're starting to actually pull away

17:49

right phase four and phase five you need

17:52

a strategy to help you get there so

17:55

while you're trading in the Sim you know

17:57

what you're doing you're beginning to

17:58

generate your own track record of

18:01

metrics so when you look at my metrics

18:03

here I use this software called Trader

18:05

view now this software's uh $49 a month

18:08

but this is software and by the way I

18:10

don't have any affiliate relationship

18:11

with them so use them if you want don't

18:12

use them if you don't want you could

18:13

also just track your trades in an Excel

18:15

doc if you want uh but however you track

18:17

your trades what's important is that you

18:19

track your trading metrics because those

18:22

metrics become your sense of confidence

18:26

now for me these metrics give me a

18:27

tremendous sense of confidence I've got

18:29

12.8 million right here in gross profit

18:33

I've got 68% accuracy I mean you could

18:35

see all of these metrics right here and

18:37

you know what if you're asking me Ross

18:39

how did you choose the price stocks that

18:41

you trade right well in my small account

18:44

strategy PDF I lay out the price stocks

18:46

that I focus on and my metrics back up

18:48

the reason why I trade those stocks now

18:51

early on my metrics look the same but

18:54

the numbers were much smaller and I also

18:57

had some big losses and some of these

18:59

other areas what I learned to do was I

19:01

learned to cut out the elements of my

19:03

strategy that weren't working at all and

19:07

double down on the areas where I was

19:09

Finding success part of sim trading is

19:11

collecting data analyzing that data and

19:14

then making improvements making changes

19:17

to get your trading better ultimately

19:20

the goal for a lot of beginner Traders

19:21

is to look at someone who's trading

19:23

their strategy consistently and with a

19:26

lot of success to look at their metrics

19:28

and then kind of compare where you're at

19:30

to where they're at once you have that

19:32

comparison then you set kind of like

19:34

this is my A to B how do I get there

19:37

right what are the steps I need to take

19:38

to improve my metrics now to go from

19:40

making a th000 a day to 5,000 a day

19:43

logically you have to usually take much

19:45

larger position sizes and trade more

19:47

frequently but to go from a losing

19:50

Trader to a profitable Trader that's

19:52

where you have to look at more details

19:54

like what what are you doing that's

19:55

producing the outsize losses so for me

19:59

when I pull up my metrics I could always

20:00

look at a period of time where I had a

20:02

poor month so let's just say uh this

20:05

year the month of the month of March was

20:07

a little bit um tough as I recall so

20:09

we'll pull up March we'll apply this

20:11

we'll click go and oh so here we go

20:16

right so now this is giving me data that

20:19

is actionable I can take this

20:21

information and going into the next

20:23

month I might decide I should avoid

20:25

trading stocks over $10 for the time

20:27

being because it's not producing profit

20:29

or if I looked at time a day I could say

20:31

Mondays and Tuesdays are a little tough

20:33

for me that's interesting I should be

20:34

more cautious or I look at time a day

20:36

and I see uh 6: a.m is tough and

20:38

afternoon is tough maybe I should focus

20:40

in on this area here and I can tell you

20:43

that I did exactly that going into the

20:44

month of April so if you look at my

20:46

metrics for the month of April I pivoted

20:48

I felt like I had to I ended up doubling

20:51

the profit for April got myself to

20:53

$45,000 day of the week was better I

20:55

started later and I stopped sooner I did

20:58

still have some losses here in this

21:00

window but it was better my accuracy

21:02

across the board in in uh the days of

21:04

the week was better the price range was

21:06

better I wouldn't have been able to make

21:08

those changes if I didn't first see my

21:10

data and so it's a big mistake that a

21:12

lot of Traders make to trade without

21:15

tracking any of this data so I want to

21:18

ask you if you've been trading for a

21:20

while and you have not yet imported that

21:22

data to analyze it do yourself a favor

21:25

spend the $49 for one month import all

21:28

of those trades and analyze your metrics

21:31

what time of day do you make the most

21:32

money when do you lose the most money

21:34

those are the themes that you're looking

21:36

for when you see that it's plain as day

21:39

it gives you actionable steps that you

21:41

can take to improve your trading you

21:44

then Implement those steps for a period

21:46

of time a week a month you analyze your

21:49

data after each session and you see am I

21:51

seeing progress and then new things are

21:54

going to pop out and of course it's

21:56

important to understand the market is

21:57

dynamic and always changing to a certain

22:00

degree now I've been trading a momentum

22:03

strategy for my entire career so

22:05

momentum means I'm buying stocks with

22:08

the belief that they're going to

22:09

continue their Trend that means I'm a

22:12

trend Trader so Trend Traders are

22:14

typically trading stocks that have

22:16

breaking news or trading sectors or

22:19

stocks within sectors that are very

22:21

strong because of sector-wide news and

22:23

we benefit from that kind of rising tide

22:26

when the overall Market is strong it

22:27

often just keeps kind kind of moving a

22:29

little higher and a little higher so

22:31

that's a strategy that's been around for

22:33

ultimately forever trading momentum I

22:36

mean you could go back 400 years and

22:39

there are markets where people were

22:41

chasing momentum so there's nothing new

22:44

about that it's just the way we apply it

22:46

on a day-to-day basis and make subtle

22:49

adjustments to accommodate for slight

22:52

variations in today's market okay so

22:55

let's jump back to the Whiteboard so

22:57

step one is understanding the phases

22:58

step two is learning the basics of how

23:01

trading Works step three is adopting a

23:03

strategy preferably one that's proven

23:05

profitable by someone else and step four

23:09

is Sim trading and I'll also note um uh

23:13

and

23:15

analyzing metrics this is very important

23:19

okay so now step

23:22

five um and and perhaps step five um and

23:26

step four could be interchanged um but

23:29

I'm going to just leave it as five

23:32

understanding

23:33

um the right tools to

23:36

use so there are a lot of tools that are

23:39

accessible for beginner Traders and some

23:41

beginner Traders fall into the Trap of

23:43

subscribing to dozens of different tools

23:46

which end up costing them a lot of money

23:48

each month and it's well it's not really

23:51

necessary so I want to walk you through

23:53

what I would consider to be the Bare

23:55

Bones tools required to trade the the

23:58

strategy that I'm trading every single

24:00

day so of course we have our simulator

24:04

so a Sim is a critical tool and most

24:07

Sims will include level two data which

24:10

is the depth of Market your time in

24:12

sales and charts now the charts included

24:16

with a lot of simulators are going to be

24:18

fairly basic they might not be the most

24:20

sophisticated charts but they can do for

24:23

the time being now you can spend more

24:25

money on more sophisticated charts those

24:28

could be available well for instance I

24:30

used to subscribe to e signal those

24:32

charts are about

24:34

$185 a month that's very expensive I

24:37

don't subscribe to them anymore because

24:39

it just doesn't really make sense even I

24:40

mean I can afford it but just it's not

24:43

really the best tool to use and because

24:44

a lot of Traders want to use the same

24:46

tool that I'm using because they see oh

24:47

Ross is using this tool I should use it

24:49

too I decided to start using a tool

24:51

that's a lot cheaper so we integrated

24:53

our charts into the platform that we

24:55

offer at Warrior trading so it's all

24:57

part of your monthly subscription so you

24:59

could use that but you could also use

25:01

charts for free with E Trade Fidelity or

25:04

thicker swim and most likely they would

25:07

be just fine so you do need some type of

25:11

charts you need level two and you need a

25:14

simulator that's critical now another

25:17

tool that you need are um

25:20

scanners you need a news

25:24

feed and you need some research tools

25:28

so let me walk you through um how these

25:31

work so with the scanners the scanners

25:34

that I have developed I built out for my

25:37

own use but I also made them available

25:39

to all of our members previously I was

25:42

subscribing to a tool that was about I

25:45

think it was

25:45

$225 a month it was just scanners it

25:49

didn't have charts it didn't have I

25:51

don't think it had news it was it was

25:52

just the scans and although it was good

25:55

it was a platform that most Traders

25:58

weren't maximizing all the things that

26:00

you could do with it so they were kind

26:03

of using just the minimum features

26:05

including myself and it felt like I was

26:07

paying a premium for that so I made the

26:09

decision to develop my own custom set of

26:12

scanners that would be suitable for me

26:14

and that our members at Warrior trading

26:15

could use as well so those scanners are

26:19

uh called the day trade Dash platform

26:21

and that's um what you see right here

26:23

and this is the software that I use for

26:25

my trading it's web-based software so it

26:26

works on Mac and windows so we've got

26:28

all the scanners right here and what

26:30

these scanners are doing is they're

26:31

searching so SCV right now is our second

26:35

leading percentage gainer in the market

26:37

it's up

26:39

187% now this is a stock that I traded I

26:42

had some great trades on it made some

26:43

money on it this is the chart right here

26:46

so this platform you could click on the

26:48

stock and it's going to update the chart

26:50

so you could switch back and forth so

26:52

we'll switch back to serve SCV so um so

26:57

this makes a really really nice big

26:58

squeeze and um what's interesting about

27:02

this one you've got a couple different

27:03

headlines on it so the headline was um

27:06

sares 140% after an Nvidia Nvidia

27:09

reveals a major stake all right that's a

27:12

big headline for a small cap company

27:14

like this so This stock was literally

27:16

trading under $2 and then the next day

27:18

it goes up to $9 a share well it's got a

27:20

big headline with Nvidia it's not a

27:22

surprise so my process each day of

27:26

trading well first of all and you know

27:28

kind of to go back to that conversation

27:31

I was having with my friend up in

27:32

Vermont what am I doing each day I'm

27:34

trading volatility I'm looking for stuff

27:36

that's moving well how do you find it

27:38

Well we have these things that are

27:40

called scanners and these scanners are

27:42

searching the market in real time for

27:44

stocks that are moving and they've got

27:45

to be moving quickly once a stock hits

27:48

that scanner what do I do next well I

27:50

pull up the chart and I try to figure

27:52

out what the news is when I pull up the

27:54

chart and I look at the news this gives

27:56

me context now know that the headline on

27:59

this is um you know with Nvidia that's a

28:02

great headline now I see the chart and I

28:04

see that it's clearly trending up so I'm

28:07

going to start looking for my entries

28:08

using the chart patterns that uh I trade

28:10

every single day so this is sort of what

28:14

I would say is is a really great

28:16

starting point and this is also has the

28:17

research tools built in because you can

28:19

go look at more data about the stock you

28:21

can see what the flow is the volume the

28:23

relative volume you can look at the high

28:25

price the low price now if you want to

28:27

take it a step step further you can go

28:29

into uh the SEC filings that a company

28:32

will make so SCV for instance I go into

28:36

the SEC filings and now I can do some

28:38

research here and better understand some

28:41

different elements of the company I

28:42

could read about the company I could

28:44

check their balance sheet their

28:45

financials by checking their financials

28:47

I can get a sense of what's their cash

28:49

position how much cash do they currently

28:51

have on hand is that position increasing

28:53

or is it decreasing so it takes some

28:56

training to learn how to read these

28:59

filings and one of the things that I

29:01

think all the members at Warrior trading

29:02

benefit from is that when I'm trading

29:04

I'm broadcasting so everyone can tune in

29:07

to my broadcast and by listening to my

29:10

broadcast they're able to piggyback on

29:12

my educated intuition and on my ability

29:15

to read these filings to understand the

29:18

news to interpret what I'm seeing both

29:20

in the price action and and certainly um

29:22

you know just in in the fundamentals of

29:24

that uh particular stock so number five

29:27

is understanding the right tools to use

29:29

um the news feed you've got to

29:31

understand the news Catalyst you've got

29:32

to find stocks that are moving you need

29:34

some research tools and for the most

29:36

part the research tools in the news feed

29:39

you can get generally for free uh bam

29:42

SEC there's a free subscription news

29:44

feed you can find usually on Google or

29:46

Yahoo finance scanners you cannot get

29:49

for free because they include Market

29:52

data and what's really interesting on

29:54

Market data is that uh the exchanges is

29:58

have a really stronghold on that market

30:02

data they make millions and millions of

30:04

dollars selling that market data to

30:07

different uh individual Traders and

30:09

different big hedge funds so they do not

30:11

allow that data to be given away for

30:12

free they'll find people a lot of money

30:16

they see people giving away that data

30:17

for free so you do have to pay for the

30:19

scanners and the charts that have

30:21

real-time Market data but other tools uh

30:23

can be free so then number six is

30:28

setting

30:29

up setting up the

30:32

perfect station and this is uh a trading

30:36

station so when I'm talking about

30:38

setting up the Perfect Trading station

30:41

it doesn't have to be as complex as

30:43

everything you see here this is 1 2 3 4

30:46

five six monitors three computers are

30:49

powering it and I've got three monitors

30:51

right here so nine so I have 10 monitors

30:54

right here but this is what I use not

30:57

just for tra I use this for YouTube for

31:00

editing the videos for you guys you know

31:02

for hitting the comments and everything

31:03

else so this computer here is a computer

31:07

that I use for YouTube and social media

31:09

and this is the setup that I use for

31:12

trading so five monitors for trading is

31:16

a little bit more than what most

31:18

beginner Traders need so let me walk you

31:21

through what I would say is a great

31:23

starting setup for a

31:24

beginner I'm going to give you um this

31:27

setup right right here this is a

31:30

laptop and right here you're going to

31:32

have monitor 1 and monitor 2 on a rack

31:37

so you're going to have external monitor

31:39

One external monitor 2 and then you're

31:41

going to have your laptop screen now

31:43

some of you're going to say Ross what in

31:45

the world are you kidding me you're

31:47

trading on a laptop with a little teeny

31:50

keyboard and a little trackpad you're

31:53

right I am and I know that that sounds

31:55

crazy but you can see that's what I've

31:56

got right here and the reason that I

31:58

like that is because for my workflow for

32:00

the way that I'm trading and I'll just

32:02

move this computer so you could see it

32:04

um under where the Whiteboard is I like

32:07

this because I trade so quickly here

32:10

that when I'm moving around I I want to

32:13

be able to very quickly move move the

32:14

mouse here like this so quickly move the

32:17

mouse click and start typing the symbol

32:20

so this is the stock that I'm watching

32:21

so I type the stock in and then I'm

32:23

pressing you know shift one and uh shift

32:25

two and I'm I'm adding shares I'm

32:27

getting in getting out I I need all of

32:29

this to be in a really tight space I

32:31

don't want to be reaching over here for

32:33

an external monitor you know I I just

32:36

this works for me and it's also kind of

32:39

leaning in to one of the things that's

32:41

really nice about trading which is the

32:43

fact that you can actually do this from

32:44

anywhere in the world so for those of

32:46

you who have been tuning in for a long

32:47

time you've seen me trade from all these

32:49

different places and I did that because

32:51

I was able to bring my laptop with me so

32:53

there's no reason to be kind of locked

32:55

down to one spot now when I'm traveling

32:59

I use um these external monitors right

33:02

here these are um you can see right here

33:04

these are really super skinny monitors

33:06

if you can see closely um these are USB

33:09

monitors and I put two of them in my

33:10

carry-on bag I put those right next to

33:13

the laptop and that's all I need that's

33:15

my full trading station so that's when

33:17

I'm traveling however these monitors are

33:19

kind of I mean they're 15 inch they're a

33:21

little small so when I'm at home I like

33:23

having these 24-in monitors there are

33:26

24-in monitors I bought an Amazon some

33:28

of these are from 2013 2014 I've had

33:31

them for more than 10 years they work

33:33

just great they're totally fine so

33:35

they're not crazy fancy it's not like a

33:37

big curved screen or anything like that

33:39

it's just a standard 24-in Monitor and I

33:43

love it so now what do I have on these

33:46

monitors so this laptop monitor right

33:49

here is where I would have if I were you

33:52

a beginner Trader I would have my sim

33:54

account here and this is going to have

33:56

all of your level two window windows and

33:58

it's going to have your order entry

33:59

window and it's going to show you your

34:01

p&l you know how much you're up and how

34:03

much you're down so this is where you're

34:05

actually going to have your eye looking

34:06

most of the time right at this then you

34:09

have on monitor number one right here

34:12

what the way I do it and this is just

34:14

preference but you could do however you

34:16

want so I have um watch list stock

34:20

number two and watch list stock number

34:24

three right here and on this side I have

34:27

watch list stock number one and then

34:30

here I have my

34:32

scanners so this for me is the perfect

34:35

workflow so the most part my eye is

34:37

going back and forth between this

34:39

monitor right here and the stock that

34:41

I'm watching which is my primary stock

34:43

that I'm trading and then these are my

34:45

scanners which show my news feed so if

34:47

you actually looked at my monitors the

34:49

way they're set up this one is um

34:52

monitor number two right here this over

34:55

here is Monitor number one one the

34:58

external monitor number one I've got the

34:59

S&P 500 on one chart uh and this is a

35:03

10sec a 1 minute a 5 minute and a daily

35:06

chart for these time frames if you're

35:08

not familiar with these types of

35:09

Candlestick charts you could check out

35:11

my full length episode on how to read

35:12

Candlestick charts from zero I think

35:14

you'll appreciate that a lot and then

35:16

this is a second stock where I have four

35:18

different time frames as well the 10c

35:20

the 1 minute the 5 minute and the daily

35:23

so those are over there on the side so I

35:26

glance over it though those I keep an

35:28

eye on them and that for me is enough

35:31

now as you can see with this trading

35:33

station I also have this monitor up here

35:35

in the corner and this is an exact copy

35:38

of monitor number one so it's except

35:41

with two other stocks so that's the way

35:43

I've got mine set up right now is I've

35:45

got this additional monitor up here

35:47

which has um watch list stock four watch

35:52

list four and watch list five so having

35:54

more monitors means you can watch a

35:56

couple more stocks and then on this side

35:59

here this is where I actually have my um

36:02

my metrics so I have my metrics up on

36:05

this um screen here which it's kind of I

36:08

don't really use it that much for

36:10

trading it but anyways I just have it

36:12

and it's kind of uh symmetrically

36:13

balanced to have that monitor there

36:15

anyways so that's the way I have it set

36:18

up and I think for me this is a really

36:20

great setup and like just as an example

36:24

when we had uh the pandemic in 2020 I

36:28

was working in a nice office where I had

36:31

you know similar setup like this 10 12

36:33

monitors the whole thing set up and then

36:35

um you know we had the lockdown so I was

36:37

like well I guess I'm going to just move

36:38

home and so that's when I moved back

36:40

here and set up back in my house and I I

36:44

brought home one laptop and two monitors

36:47

and that was it and that was all I used

36:49

for a long time and then I added a third

36:51

one and then I added a fourth one and

36:53

then eventually I brought the whole

36:55

whole station home and you know I've

36:56

been working here at home now for four

36:58

plus years and actually it's great I

37:00

enjoy it but all that was to say that

37:03

when I came back I was like you know I'm

37:05

actually almost in some ways doing

37:07

better with less maybe all those

37:09

monitors were sort of a distraction and

37:11

sort of condensing down just to the most

37:14

important tools for me was really

37:17

helpful so it's the most important

37:20

things that I need on each one of these

37:21

monitors the most important indicators

37:24

the most important research tools I mean

37:26

all of it is like I just want what I

37:28

absolutely need each day for trading and

37:32

the same goes for when I'm on my

37:33

traveling trading station I'm not going

37:35

to bring you know I'm not going to put

37:38

something like this in my carry-on bag

37:40

it's crazy it's not necessary but at the

37:43

same time I'm going to be honest one

37:46

laptop screen is not enough it's not

37:49

enough with one laptop screen unless you

37:52

had a 52 or 55 in screen it's just not

37:55

enough there's too much stuff

37:57

that you need to be able to monitor

37:59

while you're trading so use the space

38:02

it's going to cost 100 bucks or whatever

38:04

it is to buy one of these monitors 125

38:06

but it's money well spent so even if you

38:10

don't get the stand you just prop it up

38:12

against something whatever you do is

38:14

fine but get yourself a couple external

38:16

monitors and my opinion is the nice

38:19

thing about the laptop is that it's

38:21

something you can bring with you

38:22

wherever you go so you get the laptop

38:24

you got a couple external monitors now

38:26

you're on the go all right so I think

38:28

I've given you a pretty good um

38:30

explanation of setting up what I would

38:33

call the perfect station so I would say

38:36

again a minimum of three monitors but

38:38

you know you do as you'd like number

38:41

seven okay number seven is discipline um

38:46

I'm so bad at spelling um when I'm uh

38:49

when I'm talking so with discipline this

38:52

is one of the biggest challenges for

38:54

beginner Trader so challenging for me

38:56

even I sometimes struggle as we see to

38:58

spell it so here's the thing with

39:01

discipline remember how I said that

39:03

there's I can consolidate all the

39:05

reasons for failure down really to two

39:07

big reasons there there are a couple

39:09

others that I'll mention in a moment I

39:11

also want to share with you by the way

39:12

some recommended reading that I think

39:14

will be really helpful for you as an

39:16

aspiring Trader as you're getting

39:18

started uh so I'll share some

39:20

recommended reading with you in a moment

39:21

as well but number seven is discipline

39:24

so the number one cause of failure for

39:27

beginner Traders is that they are

39:28

trading without a strategy they have no

39:31

strategy they're shooting from the hip

39:33

so it's no surprise that they're

39:35

inconsistent they don't have a set of

39:37

rules they're following etc etc the

39:39

number two reason the Traders will fail

39:42

they have strategy they've gone through

39:45

this to for the most part they've set up

39:48

a trading station they're using the

39:49

right tools maybe they Sim traded maybe

39:52

not they've adopted a strategy they

39:54

understand how trading Works they're

39:55

going through the phases but right here

39:58

they don't have the discipline to follow

40:00

the rules and if I give you the rules

40:03

but you choose not to follow them you

40:05

cannot expect to do well because you're

40:07

deviating from the plan and this is for

40:11

me it's really frustrating when I see it

40:13

because I'll give you the rules download

40:16

it right go into the description the pin

40:18

comment download my small count strategy

40:20

PDF I'm giving you the blueprint I'm

40:23

putting it right there for you I'm

40:24

leading you to water but I can't trade

40:27

for you I can't trade for you and by the

40:29

way just as a PSA so you know there's a

40:31

lot of people out there that will make

40:33

claims that hey all you have to do is

40:35

blindly follow my alerts this and that

40:37

that's not a recipe for long-term

40:39

success I want to teach you how to be

40:41

self-sufficient I want to teach you how

40:42

to find the right stocks to trade each

40:44

day and so for what it's worth for the

40:46

members at Warrior trading who have done

40:48

really well and as always results are

40:50

not typical but for those who have done

40:53

well um I've got our success stories

40:55

page here uh we don't not a broker

40:58

dealer as you probably know so we don't

41:00

have access to um the records of all of

41:02

our uh members at Warrior trading but we

41:04

do have a a system where people can

41:06

voluntarily submit broker statements and

41:08

verify their profitability and earn a

41:09

badge and so some of these badge holders

41:12

like Max and andoli Hong you know who

41:14

have 100K 500k $2.5 million badges these

41:17

are not traders who are blindly

41:19

following me nor anyone else these are

41:22

traders who have developed the strategy

41:24

who who have learned my strategy and if

41:27

proven they can trade it profitably on

41:29

their own and they may have made you

41:31

know some minor adjustments to it based

41:33

on their um you know what their risk

41:35

profile and this and that but I I want

41:37

you just to kind of have that big

41:39

picture understanding that success in

41:41

trading will not come just from blindly

41:43

following someone else it doesn't work

41:46

that way and no one like me is going to

41:48

trade on your behalf the only way

41:51

someone else can trade your money is if

41:53

they're a licensed financial adviser and

41:55

you have to be an accredit investor to

41:58

invest in a hedge fund which means you

42:00

need to have at least 2 million bucks so

42:02

no one like me is going to be able to

42:03

trade for you on your behalf we can

42:05

teach you how to trade we can teach you

42:06

what works for us but you've got to be

42:08

the one who actually is taking the

42:10

trades and so as I teach you the

42:12

strategy and I give you the rules what

42:14

that's what I'm putting out and what I

42:15

need from you is to show that you can

42:18

have the dedication the discipline and

42:20

the drive to follow those rules and so

42:24

it's super disappointing when I see a

42:26

Trader who's a chronic rule breaker they

42:30

keep deviating from the rules so let me

42:33

give you an example of one of the rules

42:34

that we follow in trading when we're

42:36

trading we have to have what's called a

42:39

Max loss so I set a Max loss on my

42:43

account of uh daily

42:46

goal uh times one that's my Max loss my

42:50

daily goal is um I'll just make that

42:52

$5,000 so $5,000 is my daily goal so my

42:56

Max loss is five grand so my weekly goal

42:59

for what it's worth um weekly goal is

43:03

daily oops Daily Times three so the way

43:07

I figure it is Monday let's say I'm up

43:10

five grand Tuesday I'm up another five

43:12

grand Wednesday I lose five grand I have

43:14

a Max loss day but then Thursday I'm

43:17

back up five grand and Friday I'm back

43:19

up five grand so these two days cancel

43:22

each other out which leaves me with 15

43:24

grand on the week 15 grand on the week

43:27

approximately 60 Grand on the month 720k

43:31

more or less on the year that for me is

43:33

a pretty nice year now I'll have some

43:35

years where I'm way above it I'll have

43:36

some years where I'm below it but that's

43:38

the way I think of it now if I keep if I

43:41

have 5K as my Max loss and I go down

43:44

5,000 I have to stop trading I can't let

43:48

myself have days where I'm up 5K you

43:51

know

43:52

5K and then I'm down 50k and then I'm up

43:56

5K 5 K these are the days where you're

43:59

going to learn the hard way if if you're

44:02

not willing to listen to the rules that

44:04

days like this will end your career you

44:07

have to be able to cap your losses now

44:09

we don't want to cap our upside when the

44:11

Market's hot and I'm up 5K I won't stop

44:15

trading I will keep trading until I have

44:18

given

44:19

back I'll show you this is how I do it

44:22

so my first goal on the day is $1,000 of

44:25

profit so when I start each day at zero

44:27

that's when I carry the most risk

44:29

because I could go red and I don't want

44:30

to go I don't want to go red if I can so

44:32

until I'm up over $1,000 I trade with

44:37

about a quarter of my full position size

44:40

so that means these first few trades are

44:42

with small size so if I go red I'm

44:45

usually only going red 1,500 or 2 or

44:47

3,000 at the most I'm not going down 10

44:49

15,000 once I'm up more than a th once

44:52

I've unlocked by breaking over this

44:54

level Big Share size now I start to step

44:57

up and take bigger risks this is where I

44:59

make my my way up to you know 5K oops

45:03

sorry so 5K right here and I'll keep

45:06

trading but something that's very

45:08

important is that if I give back half of

45:11

my profit on the day after crossing my

45:14

goal this is a cue to walk away so if I

45:18

give back half my profit I have to walk

45:20

away absolutely have to and typically I

45:23

say if I give back

45:25

20% it's a good indic that I should walk

45:28

so that means I'll keep trading until

45:31

you know I've kind of had these two

45:33

losses like this and then that's the

45:35

spot to walk I've seen traders who have

45:37

had days where they went like this and

45:38

then they go all the way back down to

45:40

red and you've got to learn when to walk

45:43

away it's part of a system so being

45:46

disciplined as a Trader means you become

45:49

systematic in the way you trade it's not

45:52

that you're trading with an absence of

45:54

emotion but you're so focused on

45:57

following the rules it takes emotion out

46:00

of it because all I'm doing here is

46:02

following the rules and if I follow the

46:03

rules I know that there'll be some days

46:05

where I I end in the red but the losses

46:07

are manageable most days I'll finish in

46:10

the green some days I'll go up 10 15,000

46:13

then I'll give back half and I say well

46:15

I've got to walk away here I guess I

46:16

push my Lu but at least it's a green day

46:18

and I've watched different Traders

46:20

follow different paths some Traders take

46:23

the approach of I'm going to trade

46:25

without any rules at all if the Market's

46:27

hot I'm just going to keep trading no

46:29

matter how red I go I'm just going to

46:30

keep trading keep trading and what I've

46:32

seen is that traders that that don't

46:36

sort of restrain themselves will end up

46:38

having some really big outsize days some

46:41

of them will be green but a lot of them

46:42

will be R and those big swings can be

46:46

really emotional and once you get

46:48

emotionally triggered it's really hard

46:50

to maintain discipline so discipline is

46:53

about state of mind keeping yourself in

46:56

a calm cool collected state of mind

46:58

we're not sprinting for a finish this is

47:00

a marathon you got to settle in you got

47:03

to pace yourself so here's an example I

47:05

know a Trader who had a goal of having a

47:08

$500,000 year having a really big green

47:10

year which is is great it's always nice

47:13

to have a really big green year but you

47:15

know it may or may not happen so the way

47:17

you get to $500,000 of profit on the

47:21

year we have about 250 trading days each

47:24

year so if you are averaging 2,000 day

47:27

that'll be 500 Grand now the thing

47:30

that's really interesting is that this

47:31

Trader is regularly having 4 and $5,000

47:36

green days routinely so they're doing

47:39

really well they're far exceeding but

47:42

they chronically are having days where

47:44

they're going down8 and

47:46

$10,000 and these 8 and $10,000 red days

47:50

it's it's pulling down the average so

47:53

instead of averaging $22,000 a day after

47:57

you take away all these big red days

47:58

they're only averaging like 1,200 a day

48:01

right now I'm not saying 1 12200 a day

48:03

is not great that's going to have them

48:04

on track for you know $300,000 a year

48:07

but if you want to get to that 500k Mark

48:10

it's not about making more money on the

48:12

green days it honestly isn't it's about

48:14

losing Less on the days that are bad and

48:17

this is a really interesting uh topic

48:20

that I had with uh some of my successful

48:22

students I've got um this one student uh

48:25

Jess he said um we asked him uh what was

48:28

your turning point we did an interview

48:30

together I said what was your turning

48:31

point and he said you know I I don't

48:33

really recall a turning point right I

48:37

think he had the experience of going

48:38

through you know phase one um kind of

48:41

break even and then this sort of slow

48:44

Ascension back up here so his

48:47

progression through to you know P5 phase

48:51

five so we had phase one sort of

48:53

learning curve phase two going sideways

48:57

you know phase three starting to make a

48:59

little progress phase four having that

49:02

sort of first setback and then

49:03

recovering from it let's just say right

49:05

around there but he said you know I I

49:07

don't really recall like oh it was this

49:10

day that I implemented these you know

49:13

one two three changes that changed it

49:16

all for me once I did that it was like

49:18

Smooth Sailing for him he said it just

49:21

felt like I started sucking a little bit

49:24

less I thought that was really

49:26

interesting so he was like I still had

49:28

red days they were just a little farther

49:32

apart when I would have them right so

49:33

they were just a little more spaced

49:34

apart when I would have those big red

49:36

days and and that was kind of the

49:38

difference and you know I I think that

49:40

there's a lot to be said for that it it

49:42

can be very subtle that shift now for me

49:46

my turning point was a lot more uh a lot

49:49

more concrete to an event because what

49:52

happened for me was I had a day where uh

49:56

I was so mine looks more like this where

49:59

I was going sideways like this and after

50:02

a sort of bigger drop like that that

50:05

became where I was basically at all-time

50:07

lows that became for me the Catalyst to

50:10

look at my metrics really closely and

50:12

ask myself some hard questions um and

50:15

that's when I said you know what are you

50:16

doing right now that's working because

50:18

this is in total not working and that's

50:21

when I said all right wait a second this

50:23

is the price stock that's working really

50:25

well for me this is the time of day

50:27

that's working really well for me it was

50:29

like 9:30 to 10:30 and I thought even if

50:31

I only trade for an hour a day but you

50:34

know I could just take two good trades

50:36

three good trades that could be my

50:38

turning point and then I had a six-month

50:40

period where I was stair stepping up and

50:42

then I remember in one day I had a big

50:44

drop back down and I looked back at my

50:46

metrics and I said you know what Ross

50:48

you're the same person who just did this

50:49

you had a lapse you had a momentary

50:51

lapse of judgment that results in that

50:53

loss you could do that again and I did

50:55

it again except that the next time I

50:57

didn't stop till my account was at 100K

50:59

and that was like my that was like a

51:01

really big moment for me and this

51:04

happened within about 12 months um I

51:08

this was like two years into trading so

51:09

I was at about the 24mth point right

51:12

here when this moment happened little

51:14

bit of beginner's luck in the first year

51:16

ran out in the second year then had this

51:18

big drop then had a nice recovery 6

51:21

months drop down and then the next 6

51:23

months got myself back up to here so

51:25

from implementing the these changes here

51:27

to this was about a year and look some

51:31

of you guys are going to say wow Ross

51:33

sounds like learning how to trade

51:35

starting from zero is going to take six

51:38

months a year maybe longer I hate to

51:41

break it to you but it's going to take

51:42

some time it doesn't happen overnight

51:45

and it requires a high degree of

51:47

dedication discipline and drive but if

51:49

you have that if you're really driven

51:52

and you're willing to just make

51:53

incremental progress like learning a

51:55

little bit each day watching my recaps

51:58

watching YouTube videos just like this

51:59

reading some books right that

52:02

incremental progress it's all going to

52:04

filter down and add to your educated

52:06

intuition one of the things I'm a big

52:08

advocate of is trying to trade a little

52:10

bit every day so if you could trade a

52:12

little bit every day you know in a cash

52:13

account with just a small 10 shares just

52:16

to gain that experience of course in the

52:18

simulator is better but just keep

52:20

gaining experience because here's the

52:22

cool thing the Market's going to be here

52:24

so you could spend the next 5 years

52:26

saying uh I'll wait till I have more

52:27

time or you could spend the next 5 Years

52:30

Learning a little bit each day while you

52:32

continue doing other things think about

52:34

where you'll be it's going to be a big

52:35

difference so now let's talk about some

52:37

of this um some of the books that are on

52:38

my reading list so one that I'll start

52:41

with here uh that I think is great for

52:43

beginners um is the Happiness Advantage

52:46

this is by Shan aor and this talks about

52:50

attitude it's about H you've got to have

52:52

the attitude to get through the learning

52:54

curve because it's so emotionally

52:56

difficult attitude really does make the

52:59

difference another book Annie Duke

53:01

thinking in bets this is a great book

53:03

she's a a semi-professional professional

53:05

poker player and um although poker is

53:08

certainly different from Trading there

53:10

are areas of thinking and best that I

53:12

think this really does align with the

53:14

type of stuff that we're talking about

53:16

pretty much every single day another

53:18

book here by Annie Duke quit the power

53:20

of knowing when to walk away this is a

53:22

really good one um I do have my own book

53:24

if you haven't read it it's on Amazon on

53:27

how to day trade the plain truth this is

53:29

a book that um is much more

53:32

conversational it's I have the audio

53:33

book so you could listen to it if you'd

53:35

like um this talks about the guard rails

53:37

uh that help keep me in line learning

53:40

how to trade uh kind of is like learning

53:42

how to ride a bike with training wheels

53:44

on you got to keep yourself safe so I

53:45

talk about some of those steps um that

53:48

I've taken in my trading so and then one

53:50

last book that I think is really helpful

53:52

on the emotional side is this book

53:54

called trade mindfully by Gary Dayton

53:57

because there's no question that emotion

53:59

is is a huge factor in fact um you know

54:03

when we're looking at our list here of

54:06

the seven steps to becoming a

54:11

Trader you can't I mean they're not

54:13

weighted equally it's just it's just not

54:15

the way it works I mean obviously

54:17

understanding phase is important but

54:19

that's not nearly as important as having

54:20

discipline understanding how trading

54:22

Works yes that's foundational Concepts

54:24

you've got to have that but like

54:25

discipline is a huge one this is really

54:28

huge and of course adopting a strategy

54:29

is really important so I I really would

54:32

encourage you to do some work on the

54:34

discipline side of trading because I

54:36

think you're going to find sooner or

54:37

later that you'll be faced with the big

54:39

emotion that comes with having a big

54:41

trade it could be a big winner but more

54:43

likely a big loser and now you're faced

54:46

with okay I've dug myself a hole right I

54:49

was having a nice run whatever it was

54:51

like I was you know in this in this

54:53

period here where I had this nice leg up

54:57

and then boom I give it all back in one

54:59

day it's like how could I lose 30 Grand

55:02

in one day how could I be so stupid all

55:04

the self-doubt comes in oh my gosh maybe

55:07

this is the place I'm going to give up

55:09

and then how do you get yourself back on

55:11

the horse so a certain degree of it is

55:14

the ability uh to give yourself that pep

55:16

talk that selft talk um to be your

55:18

biggest ad your own biggest Advocate um

55:21

and and a lot of that does come from

55:22

looking at data the data is going to

55:24

tell you you know what you're doing when

55:25

you follow follow the rules when you

55:27

break the rules that's when we have

55:28

problems stop breaking the rules and the

55:30

pain becomes so great from breaking the

55:33

rules at a certain point that most

55:36

people will stop uh but we know that

55:40

that's not true for everyone there are

55:42

some people that even in the face of

55:44

this pain will continue to make really

55:47

bad decisions and they'll continue to

55:49

lose money and that's one of the biggest

55:51

risks with trading I often say there's a

55:53

blessing in a curse with trading the

55:54

curse is that you could spend two years

55:57

struggling to make just $10 a day and

55:59

you're not trying to be greedy you're

56:01

not trying to fly in a private jet or

56:02

drive a fancy car $10 a day just enough

56:05

for you know whatever something small

56:07

and you can spend two years not able to

56:09

do it consistently and then the blessing

56:12

is it once you're consistently making

56:13

$10 a day you're consistently making $10

56:16

a day all right let's say you're doing

56:18

$10 a day trading with 10 shares all

56:21

right now well let's just say you're

56:22

doing it with 100 shares doesn't matter

56:23

so that's 10 cents that's 10 cents per

56:26

share so now what if you increase your

56:28

share size to a th000 holy smokes would

56:32

we actually go to $100 a day well maybe

56:34

we don't go from 100 to a th000 in one

56:36

jump but what if you did what if you

56:38

went to

56:40

10,000 because if your strategy is

56:42

consistent and it's working 10 cents 10

56:46

cents 10 cents it's the same trade the

56:49

only difference is your position size

56:52

and that's when trading gets really

56:55

exciting and that's where I've seen some

56:57

traders who have really excelled who

56:59

have done really well because they first

57:01

set the foundation they learn the seven

57:03

steps for Success they follow the steps

57:07

they've got the discipline to follow the

57:08

rules and then they scale their strategy

57:12

so I guess you could say step eight is

57:14

scaling but but really this is the these

57:16

are the seven steps for getting started

57:19

I hope that this has been really

57:20

educational for you if it has please hit
