I Caught Europes LARGEST River Monster…

Boys and girls, you know what time it

is. For the last 3 years, I've traveled

all over the world chasing some of the

deadliest and most dangerous fish on the

entire planet.

>> Oh my.

Oh my god. Look at the size of those

things.

That's it right there. That is the fish

of my entire.

But this this is different. For the

first time ever, we're exploring an

entirely new continent. No guide, no

safety net, and no one showing us where

to go, just us. And one of the most

dangerous rivers in all of France. A

river known for powerful currents,

towering commercial barges, and giants

lurking beneath the surface. Somewhere

[music] in these waters lives the

largest freshwater fish in Europe. A

predator surrounded by legends. A fish

that inspired generations of explorers,

including Jeremy Wade himself. And with

time officially running out and less and

[music] less options in front of me, we

are getting down to the final moments to

see if I'm able to make this possible.

>> It is 5:30 in the morning. We're

literally running off just another few

hours of sleep. But this is our only

full day. We've got to make it count. We

have a cooler or a bag full of dead

mackerel and giant squids. I don't know.

Hopefully, we can pull through. But

we're going to fish till like 9:00 in

the morning and then if nothing happens,

I'm going to have to rethink what we're

doing and build a different strategy.

But until then, we haven't tried in the

morning yet.

Aside from the medieval castle right

there and the giant fish right there.

Believe it or not, just like in Texas,

you know, oh, something just busted. Who

knows what that could have been. I hit

our boat over there in the bushes and

it's still there, which is great cuz if

it got stolen, that would have been so

bad. We just don't have the time to take

it down and set it up every day because

that's just way too much work. There's

the SS Giga Destroyer. And okay, still

pretty pumped.

>> Goal today. Catch a fish bigger than our

boat. The SS Giga Destroyer. How big is

that?

>> It would technically be a world record

fish to be 10.8 ft.

>> The coolest part about this is in the

area we're in, it's like a very medieval

area. I mean, the fact there's a castle

right there. I mean, like a giant

castle. It would probably be one of the

craziest like I'm talking top three or

top five destinations we've ever landed.

A giant fish.

I'm very excited to get home and see all

of you guys at the meet and greet in a

few days. I really want to land this

fish so we can talk about it in person.

That would be great. It is a must right

now.

At this point, I have fished every

single spot I could see. But that's what

happens when you're fishing somewhere

you've never been. And for something

monstrous like this, I'm also starting

to get the impression people don't truly

understand what I'm after. This is about

the only continent on the planet where

you can [music] actually find this fish.

This is the largest freshwater fish in

all of Europe and the largest catfish on

[music] the entire planet. There's been

recorded attacks of them trying to pull

swimmers underneath the water and they

are considered one of the few freshwater

river monsters on Earth and it's

something I have never got to target.

The only issue is is I gave myself such

limited time and I'm beating myself up

at this point for doing that. And

normally I'm in a situation where I can

push back flights, but I can't on this

trip. I decided to pack up everything

and try something new.

>> We didn't get anything in this stretch.

So, we're moving. But the only problem

is there is no way physically possible

we get this boat as small as we got it

here. We happen to have another plan.

literally have We only have 24 hours

left. We still haven't landed the fish.

No clue what to do. What I can say is

this boat is uh we might lose it. We're

going to try.

What are the literal odds that the first

time I don't even know what this is? We

don't even have this in the United

States. There's just a bar that like

says our max height for no reason at

all. We're going to try and get

underneath.

I am getting excited because all we have

is today and tomorrow morning. That's

it. This is the biggest catfish in the

world all the way in France. My butt

cheeks are tingling, which is always a

good sign. It feels like we're at the

Trinity. It's just a clearer version.

Except for here there's a rope swing.

One. That was good. Good job. You did

it. Oh, I want to do it.

>> This looks insane.

This is how you know that there is going

to be giant fish in here. Just crazy

looking. I like I said, it just does not

feel like we're in France at all. Look

at all this. And apparently there's 9

foot fish living inside of it

and incredibly dangerous bulls. Everyone

keeps talking about the bulls, but we

haven't encountered that yet. [music]

honest, I've slowly lost hope because

there is branches everywhere. So,

keeping this from getting eaten and not

going inside of a tree is going to be

incredibly difficult, but I'm not really

sure what else to try. [music]

All right, we're at another spot. We're

just checking things off the list. But

the thing about this spot is is if you

notice there's some guys on some belly

boats out there, which is a good sign

because that means there's someone

fishing over here and they're in the

middle of the river, which means I'm

going to pop that little graph on this

boat. We're going to see if we can find

what they're looking at because that

tells me a lot, I think. Could be

completely wrong. But let's get this

boat in the water.

opportunity, it's right now. Um, it's

starting to finally soak in. If we don't

get We can't go home empty-handed. You

got to at least get one at least one

fish. It's so pretty, too, outside. It's

difficult than anticipated, but we're

good news. There's good news. Final

opportunity. There's another guy at this

boat ramp. I don't know if he does well

as catfishing, but he said he speaks

English somehow. And he said that he's

marked them like right here before

giants. And he wouldn't mind showing me

where it was. Not that this means we're

going to catch a fish, but like that's

the best info I've heard that there's a

spot where they've been seen. That's

great. And his name is Hugo. What is

that? Is that a cruise ship?

>> I don't know.

>> Do you want to have a dance battle with

your mama?

me if I'm filming you?

>> The camera move. This is crazy. Random

man named Hugo.

Didn't even ask him. He just d he's

awesome. This is exactly what I meant by

local knowledge. Hold this.

Now, you're probably wondering what Hugo

is doing right here. This is called a

clunker. And believe it or not, the fish

actually like the sound and they come up

from the depths. From what I could

gather from Hugo's English is he fishes

for all types of stuff, but he has seen

massive fish under the water on his

craft here. And he told me that if I

tried hard enough, maybe I could get one

to bite.

It's not a giant, but it is at least

some hope. Talk about a buzzer beater.

We just need a gigantic buzzer beater.

But wow, that is a crazy looking fish.

Literally out of nowhere, a storm just

blew in. So now we're getting pushed far

away from the spot we were at. Just

drifting down at top of it

and it is getting cold.

Okay. That feels like a good fish, but I

don't know entirely what a massive

catfish feels like. Like this.

Wells catfish.

Not a giant Wells catfish, but this is a

miniature river monster. This is a tiny

river monster. Keep in mind, they get so

much bigger than that. These teeth are

actually much sharper than the catfish

in the states. Oh my gosh, look at that.

Looks like an eel. Just bigger. Just

bigger. Come on. Oh, we're so close.

This is like final hours. All right,

honey. Give it a sniff.

All right. Gives me hope. That gives me

hope. Oh, there we go.

Oh, there's another one. Oh my gosh,

dude. They just turned on from that

storm.

come on. Oh, about the same size as the

last one, dude. They're eating now. It

must mean there's big ones down there.

there, pretty mama. It is like you just

turned a catfish into an eel. Dude, that

is crazy.

Awesome. Just literally need big old

stepdad. That's all we need.

working with a few hours. That's it.

caught the wells catfish, but like we

were obviously after a different size

and I just think we have a flight

tonight and it just the time doesn't

align.

And these waves are bad. And Jush is

having a hard time. Jish is having a

really hard time. Time to head back.

>> To be honest, I can't even say I caught

a Wells catfish. It doesn't count

because this isn't what I was looking

for. I was looking for a 7ft fish. So,

getting off the water broke my heart.

So, it was time for me to make a

decision.

>> We got to film this in real time. I

changed a flight.

>> I'm not even kidding.

>> We're not doing this another trip in a

row. Like I'm I'm trying to go home. We

got things to do.

>> I know. I I Okay. Okay. The flight is

supposed to leave in 2 hours. I changed

it to 11:50 tonight. It was It did cost

money. They don't have Spirit over here

either. I The guy who was out there on

the belly boat, Hugo, I got his number.

I before I changed the flight, I texted

him. I said, "Hey, are you going to

still be out there?" because he said he

knew where the catfish were because he

had seen them before. He's going to be

out there all day. We were in the middle

of packing everything up. We can leave,

go back, fish for another 3 and 1/2, 4

hours, and then go get on the flight.

>> I can't leave d with a small one like

that. We can't. We came all the way here

with Jush and the and the SS Giga

Destroyer.

Physically can't leave.

>> We don't have a choice.

on an outfit for the airport, but I'm

going to completely change and we're

going to go back now.

If we don't catch this fish, I'm going

to look like a loser. I'm going to look

like an absolute idiot if we don't catch

this.

catch it?

kidding. This is an insane moment. This

reminds me so much of the Goliath tiger

fish because we saw a little tiny baby

right before [music] we caught the one

that we needed. We just pulled back up.

Keep in mind we have to leave in a

little while because I changed the

flight to tonight. But look at that.

Exactly what we're looking for is washed

up dead on the bank. I'm not even

joking.

That is a uh legitimate 7 foot long

catfish. Just dead. The exact thing

we're looking for is just washed up

right here. That is really tough to see.

One, because you don't want the fish to

die and two because it's just like exact

what we need is just there. They get

hundreds of pounds bigger than that.

We've got probably 3 hours. Ultra buzzer

beater.

All right. I was just sitting there just

minding my own business and this thing

fight like. I'm not really entirely

sure, but it's Rod is doubling over the

literally were sitting there. I was

like, "All right, well, hopefully

something happens right away." This is

the boat.

As amazing as the feeling was, I just

knew this wasn't the fish I was looking

for. And as much as I was trying to mask

my pain with happiness, I was truly

looking for one way larger than this.

But the difference between a 6-ft fish

and the seven I set out my sight for can

be over 100 lb. And I knew this fish was

on the lower end.

>> You literally were like

LITERALLY I HAD NO IDEA THAT WAS COMING.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT.

THAT FISH IS PROBABLY about the same

size as me.

I cannot wait to get this thing next to

me. Dude, I am so pumped. Hugo was such

a legend. Literally was like, "I've seen

him before over there. Let's go look.

We'll go look." And sure enough, we're

sitting there. There it is.

The thing is they get so much bigger

than this. Look at that. That is crazy.

Wow. The [music] f I mean, literally, I

remember watching this on river monsters

when I was a kid, and they get so much

bigger than this. So much bigger. The

fact that we caught that so quick means

we have a little bit of time to try and

catch a bigger one. Oh, look how tiny

the eyes are on this fish. They use

literally no eyesight. They use

practically no eyesight to eat. It is

all feeling vibrations through these

lateral lines and these whiskers right

here. That's what it is. Oh my.

Yes. THAT RIGHT THERE.

THAT IS A river monster.

This fish is the length of me. Maybe a

few inches more. That fish we were

about. You would never think Europe

would have anything like this.

right now, this is blowing my mind. This

is what we needed. This is what we

needed. I just want to take a look at

this fish. I just want to see it. I'm

I went from having no hope this

afternoon to then landed one that was

the size of me and then hooking what I

think all the hype is about.

I can't believe this is a catfish. I

This This is what I came for. This is

the fish I had crossed an entire ocean

to find. And the second I laid eyes on

it, I knew it shattered every single

[music] expectation I had. And my goal

was 7 ft. But this this fish was

something else entirely. [music] A true

river monster. And moments like this

remind me why I do what I do. [music]

Every mile, every failure, and every

sleepless night, it all leads to moments

that most people [music] will never

experience. And this was enough for me

to know that I'm slowly entering a group

of some of the [music] best to ever do

it. And with less than 3 days and no

experience on these waters and nothing

[music] but determination and the

resources around me, we did it. If

there's one thing I can tell you, it's

the greatest adventures aren't found by

the people who wait until they're ready.

They're found by the people willing to

begin before they are. Ladies and

gentlemen, we have officially crossed

off the most requested fish in fanatic

history, the legendary European Wells

catfish.

Yeah, those teeth are way sharper

compared to the other one. OH MY

GOSH. Damn it.

Oh my gosh. What the [ __ ] Oh, that's a

huge fish. Oh, that's a dinosaur.

[music] I I don't even know. I don't

even know how to hold the fish. I

literally don't even know how to hold

the fish. It is so big. Look at that

thing's face. Look at that. That is an

actual monster. The fins on the side are

just they're bigger than my hand. This

is crazy. Okay,

this is a gigantic fish. Probably 180

lb. I wish you guys could see the

stomach on this thing.

Yes. Oh my gosh. That is a dinosaur.

Why? I can't I I legitimately can't

believe this right now. I'm so happy.

I'm so happy with this fish.

Oh my. It's just double the size of the

other one. Literally double. [music]

Gosh, [music] that is an authentic giant

in South France. That's about as big as

catfish get in the world. This fish is

right under 200 lb. And it is a

prehistoric [music]

monster.

All right, guys. Well, I mean, I wish

the water was crystal clear. I think I

think you guys could I think you guys

could tell it's [music] a dinosaur. My

whole leg could fit in this thing's

mouth. I mean, like my hand will fit in

there

[clears throat] no problem. This is it.

The last one [music] was awesome and it

like made me feel like the triple was

was there and it was good enough to say

like, "All right, we can come back in a

year or two and cross off a giant." But

this just this completed it. This is it.

This is what you want. We didn't have to

go to Spain in the [music] rivers that

like everyone fishes. We came to South

France to do it ourselves. And then we

met Hugo, which was just appalling. That

was what I said I wanted to do. Come out

here on our own, meet someone that was

local, learn about the fish, and here it

is.

Yes. I'm going to get this big mama back

in the water. Obviously, [music] it's a

catfish, so it's really easy to work

with them cuz they are just fine. This

thing is just exhausting cuz I fought it

for so [music] long. It's literally just

chilling with me, but the second I get

out there, it's just going to take off

into the water. It was awesome with this

big girl. You would actually never even

know there's over a 7ft fish [music]

right here. But um she's right in

between my legs.

I'm gonna walk her out and Big Bertha is

going to get sent home. Oh my gosh.

we did that for a mission, including

he's going to take this boat out so we

can go catch catfish on it now. Taking

just literally everything, the oil, the

gas, all of it, the rods, just cuz he

was so awesome. He was just so cool. And

we pulled up and he was like, "If y'all

are fishing for wells, I've seen some."

So, he knew what to do. And it was such

a good time. I I can't even believe what

just happened. So, all of this is going

to him. He's like a super passionate

fisherman. It'll be really cool. I got

his number, so he can literally just

send me pictures of him catching

monsters. Now, aside from that, we've

got to get out of here because we have a

layover in Rome.

Boys and girls, we are in Rome. And if

you are following us on Snapchat or

Instagram, we had a layover here. So, we

stopped and hung out. We saw the

coliseum. We saw the Spanish steps. We

saw literally everything you could see

in Rome. But we got to fly out in like

two hours. It is crazy here. This is the

first time we've ever filmed in Italy. I

feel like we at least had to get a few

clips.

>> Do you think we'll be back? Is there any

river monsters in Italy?

>> No, absolutely not. Uh, we caught the

river monster, which was the Wells.
