I BOUGHT A REPOSSESSED BUGATTI VEYRON

45:15EnglishTranscribed Jul 25, 2026
0:00

I have just bought a Bugatti Veyron

0:05

with a small wishet.

0:08

>> I'll be honest, a Bugatti was never on

0:12

my dream car list.

0:13

>> Very possibly the best car we'll see in

0:16

our lifetime.

0:16

>> I just didn't think it was ever

0:18

attainable.

0:19

>> They did it only as a technical exercise

0:21

to see if it could be done.

0:22

>> There was only ever 450 ever made.

0:25

>> This is so much more than any car you've

0:28

ever seen. And today Veyrons are going

0:30

for over £1.5 million.

0:33

>> 700. I have 750 with Clution. 150 2

0:36

million2. If you have to ask the price,

0:39

you can't afford it.

0:40

>> It's your go. [music]

0:42

>> And this is all if you can even find one

0:44

for sale.

0:49

But have you ever heard of law of

0:51

attraction?

0:52

>> If you can see it here and you have the

0:55

courage enough to speak it, it will

0:57

happen.

0:59

And that's exactly what did.

1:03

Whilst I was out in Florida rebuilding

1:05

Alex's Chiron,

1:08

>> I had a message from a repossession

1:10

company who was selling a Bugatti Veyron

1:14

with an array of problems. And it's

1:17

weird in my life. I feel like

1:18

opportunities have been thrown right in

1:20

front of my face. And if I didn't take

1:23

them, I could have gone in so many

1:25

different directions. And I feel like

1:28

this was another one of those

1:30

opportunities that I could not miss out

1:33

on. So I had to take the risk.

1:35

>> The Bugatti Veyron will pass through the

1:38

air at 250.

1:40

>> The Veyron is about pushing the outside

1:43

of the envelope.

1:44

>> It's 16 cylinders, 8 L,

1:46

>> four turbos,

1:47

>> and 1,000 horsepower.

1:50

>> I love this car. And I had [music] just

1:54

committed to buying one for a lot

1:56

cheaper than the usual price, but with

1:59

hopes I was going to be able to fix it.

2:03

Room is being made. This is a random

2:08

Tuesday night and I think it's going to

2:11

be probably the biggest Tuesday night of

2:13

my life so far. Try and take this all

2:16

in. I can't believe what is actually

2:17

happening. It was kind of a bit of an

2:19

impulse. But it had to be an impulse

2:20

because we had to commit to whether

2:22

we're doing it or not. But I can't

2:24

believe I'm saying this right now.

2:27

Bugatti Veyron is coming into the

2:29

garage. My Bugatti Veyron. What the

2:32

hell? [laughter]

2:34

And here it arrives. About 8 hours ago,

2:37

we saw it for about 20 minutes and had

2:39

to make the decision there and then.

2:41

[music]

2:42

But sometimes the best decisions are

2:44

impulse decisions

2:46

>> and this certainly [music] was one.

2:48

>> Did you ever think that would be going?

2:50

>> No,

2:51

>> absolutely not. But fair place.

2:54

>> I really didn't think

2:56

>> I did.

3:03

>> Oh my god.

3:05

There it is.

3:07

My Bugatti Veyron. [music]

3:11

words I'd never thought I'd ever say.

3:16

Wow,

3:17

that is mental. It's not crashed.

3:20

Wa,

3:23

it looks so good.

3:24

>> Looks sick, don't it?

3:25

>> It looks so good. Do you like it? It's

3:28

kind of [music]

3:28

I don't know why, but it really it's it

3:31

it kind of reminded me of my Loopo.

3:34

[laughter]

3:34

>> I'll be honest. Just take it back. Just

3:37

take it back. And now I do know why. My

3:40

Volkswagen [music] Lupo was the first

3:42

car I ever really had to save up for.

3:45

And I remember picking it up and how

3:47

proud [music] I felt that all the work

3:49

that I'd done had bought me a car I

3:52

really wanted. And that same feeling is

3:55

brought back to the Bugatti somehow.

3:57

>> Going to remind you of it even more.

3:58

Here you go. [laughter]

4:01

>> Nice.

4:02

>> I don't know if it can get better than

4:04

this. I really don't think it can get

4:06

better than this. And can it really?

4:09

It's a Veyron.

4:11

[laughter]

4:13

It's

4:15

>> And now it's about to be loaded into my

4:18

home garage.

4:19

>> Liam, are you going to be the first

4:20

person to drive the veil?

4:21

>> The first person to drive the veil cuz I

4:22

don't think he's going to let me drive

4:23

it any other time.

4:27

>> This is cool.

4:28

>> This is what's holding the car

4:31

from impending doom at the minute. And

4:34

Ethan's controlling it.

4:36

Oh my god.

4:40

That

4:40

>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

4:43

>> The noises.

4:49

>> Woo.

4:51

Look at that.

4:54

>> Oh my days.

4:57

>> I'm never driving this.

4:58

>> Oh my god.

4:59

>> Oh wow.

5:00

>> Oh, what? Look at that.

5:03

>> Lights up. It's like a jewelry box. Now,

5:05

>> I've never even sat in a Veyron before,

5:08

so all of this stuff was new to me.

5:12

And to be honest, everything looked in

5:14

decent condition. Oh, it's number 34.

5:17

And the car was built for Dubai. And the

5:20

country of destination [music] was

5:22

Dubai. I want to start it

5:25

cuz it does start. I don't know how long

5:28

we can run it for cuz I think the

5:30

coolant is low on it and I don't know

5:33

where to top the coolant off yet. W 16

5:38

four turbos, 16 cylinders. What the hell

5:42

is going on? Believe it or not,

5:45

>> it does actually run.

6:02

So, so

6:07

>> and although it runs, it fails to drive.

6:12

And this

6:15

brings us on to the issue.

6:22

Now, when you buy a car from a

6:24

repossession company, all you [music]

6:26

get is the keys. That's it. So, I have

6:28

no idea of the history of this car, no

6:31

idea why it got repossessed or the

6:33

issues with it. So, first thing I did is

6:36

put this registration plate into car

6:38

vertical. And I didn't think that this

6:40

car would actually come on this [music]

6:41

registration. Turns out it does. So I

6:43

have got this registration with the car.

6:46

And another thing I can see it's

6:48

actually registered as white on here.

6:50

But we found out that this is actually a

6:54

wrap. The whole car is wrapped. And I

6:57

can see from the inside of the door it's

6:59

like a light blue color. And then this

7:01

looks like a dark blue color. So, it' be

7:04

interesting to see what it's actually

7:07

like underneath the wrap as well.

7:09

Another thing I can see is that the car

7:11

didn't even come to the UK until 2018.

7:14

And that backs it up with this because

7:17

underneath here, I can see that it was

7:19

made in Moles, France. Chassis number

7:22

34, but the car was built to be in

7:25

[music] Dubai. Now, I've heard a lot of

7:27

things about cars which go to Dubai, and

7:28

apparently the ones which are built for

7:30

Dubai are supposedly meant to be better,

7:32

better cooling because of the heat. I

7:34

[music] don't know how true that is, but

7:36

all of these Veyrons are left and drive.

7:39

So, that's not an issue for me that it

7:41

was registered in Dubai and it come to

7:42

the UK. Since it's been in the UK, the

7:45

mileage has shot up, but then slowing

7:48

right down since 2023. Another

7:51

interesting thing I've seen on here is

7:52

that the car was in July 2025, which

7:56

isn't that long ago. The problem that

7:58

this car has must have happened within

8:02

those 8 months. But but what worries me

8:04

is if the guy stopped paying his finance

8:06

because he couldn't afford the repair on

8:09

the car. And that's the big question.

8:11

How did it end up getting [music]

8:12

repossessed? But on the good side,

8:14

because it has been repossessed now, I

8:16

can see on the car vertical check that

8:18

there is no [music] outstanding finance

8:20

on it. Now, overall, the car is in

8:25

pretty much immaculate condition for its

8:27

age. The interior barely has any marks

8:29

on it. Yes, there's a few things here

8:31

and there which do need replacing and

8:33

updating. There always is going to be

8:35

that on a 2006 car. Let's get on to the

8:38

issue. And the good thing is that this

8:41

car starts as you've seen.

8:53

So, the car runs.

8:55

To me, it sounds like it has a small

8:58

misfire.

9:00

But take a look at the dash. The dash is

9:02

lit up with the engine light and a

9:06

coolant light. The worst part of it all,

9:08

I try to go into neutral,

9:14

nothing happens. If I try to go into

9:16

drive,

9:17

nothing happens. I cannot get this car.

9:22

This car will not come out of park.

9:25

Yeah. And this engine wasn't sounding

9:28

good. There's some big There's been some

9:30

strange sounds coming from it. And off.

9:35

So, at the minute, we have an engine

9:37

light, a transmission light. The car

9:39

won't go into gear, and since it's been

9:41

here, I've charged the battery. I

9:43

thought maybe it's all battery related.

9:46

It could be a low battery. We know how

9:47

many problems batteries cause, but since

9:50

it's been parked here, there's been

9:53

coolant on the floor coming from the

9:54

front end. Now, we know from our friend

9:57

Mark, who also bought a Bugatti with a

10:00

broken gearbox, found out that the price

10:02

for one from Bugatti themselves,

10:04

£300,000.

10:06

And on top of that, getting any parts

10:08

from Bugatti themselves is going to be

10:10

difficult, as we've found out.

10:12

>> And if you're looking to try and repair

10:13

that yourself, you could be sat on it

10:16

until you're forced to actually take it

10:18

back to Bugatti themselves. So to repair

10:20

or even diagnose this car, we've got to

10:22

figure it out ourselves if we don't want

10:24

that huge bill from Bugatti. So it's

10:26

really a mystery and it was really a

10:28

risk. But I do think we can get to the

10:31

bottom of this and repair it. I think we

10:33

need to get this car inside the workshop

10:35

and just work out what the hell is going

10:37

wrong with it.

10:43

>> So now it's time to begin work [music]

10:46

on the Veyron. And right now we have

10:48

three problems. No gears, a misfire,

10:51

[music]

10:52

and a cooling line. And I think the best

10:54

place to start is to plug in the

10:56

diagnostic tool and see if that will

10:58

give us any clues as to what's going

11:00

wrong with this car. There we go. She's

11:03

in. The OBD port is just underneath the

11:06

steering wheel like any normal car. Then

11:09

we can get the fault codes. 20

11:13

30 faults. Before we even look at what

11:16

what they are, I'm going to

11:17

>> [music]

11:18

>> erase them and we'll see what comes

11:19

back. That's the best way. Now, best

11:21

case scenario, we erase all these fault

11:23

codes and everything works.

11:26

Go off and then we're going to go back

11:28

on and if this goes into gear, I will

11:31

lose my mind. But after we'd erased them

11:34

and then started back up, put on the

11:37

brake. Still wasn't looking good.

11:43

No,

11:44

>> we've still got a transmission light.

11:46

Engine light is back on and flashing.

11:56

>> Yeah, it doesn't sound good back there.

11:58

>> And now when I scan the faults again, I

12:00

can see the misfire issue.

12:02

>> Cylinder 8,

12:05

no signal.

12:07

Now, this could mean multiple things,

12:09

but at the minute, it's pinned down to

12:11

ion current at cylinder 8. So, that

12:13

could mean that the coil pack, which is

12:16

in charge of giving the spark plug the

12:18

spark, is faulty or broken. And the

12:21

strange thing about this is that when I

12:23

remember back to Mark's videos, who also

12:25

had the broken gearbox, it also had a

12:28

similar fault.

12:29

>> It has got a misfire, which we diagnose

12:31

down to an ion control module. So, what

12:33

are the chances that mine with a broken

12:35

gearbox and marked with a broken gearbox

12:38

also have the same misfire fault?

12:40

Multiple misfire detection. Cylinder 12

12:44

misfire. Cylinder 10 misfire.

12:47

16 misfire 10 misfire.

12:50

11 misfire. How many s How many

12:52

misfires? There's loads of reasons why

12:54

it could be misfiring. Like loads. like

12:58

could need a service, could have bad

12:59

spark plugs, could have bad coils, could

13:01

be a problem with the ECU.

13:04

>> What do you think it is, Kev?

13:05

>> Can you help in any way, shape, or form

13:08

>> at the minute? No. Because even though

13:10

we're getting somewhere with the

13:12

misfire, we still have no idea why it

13:14

won't go into gear. We're meant to hear

13:17

a

13:18

transmission pump. Anyway, do you know

13:21

Alex is Can you remember when we opened

13:22

the door, it went

13:25

airbags?

13:29

be okay bit.

13:33

>> I ain't heard that.

13:34

>> Now, the way this car changes gears is

13:37

with solenoids. They open and close to

13:39

direct the transmission fluid, which

13:41

then pushes the shifter fork into the

13:43

correct gear. But to do this, the

13:45

gearbox needs oil [music] pressure. And

13:48

that pressure is made electronically

13:50

with a pump. And like the SVJ, the pump

13:53

should prime before you even start the

13:56

car to make sure you've got that gearbox

13:58

pressure instantly.

14:00

Hear any pump?

14:05

>> Yeah,

14:05

>> there. We thought we could hear the

14:07

pump, but wasn't too sure. Is that the

14:11

pump, though? I think it'd be louder

14:12

than that. On the SVJ, the pump, it

14:15

needed to build up pressure in the

14:18

solenoid so you can change gear. And

14:20

when the SVJ had low transmission

14:23

shifter fluid, the pump kept going and

14:25

going and going and going until

14:26

eventually it just stopped because it

14:27

gave up. It couldn't build up enough

14:29

pressure. If that's the pump we can

14:30

hear, it should only be on until it's

14:33

built up pressure. But at the minute, it

14:34

sounds like it's still going, but I feel

14:36

like it's too quiet for a pump. Then a

14:39

fault appeared on the auto. Pump has

14:41

exceeded switch on [music] switching

14:43

time.

14:45

The pump has either stayed on for too

14:48

long and not built up enough pressure.

14:51

>> Because there's no oil in it [music] and

14:53

then it's exceeded its switch on time.

14:55

So it stop it stops itself burning out.

14:57

So it's it stops itself burning out

14:59

because it's just pumping round and

15:01

round and round and it's not building up

15:02

enough pressure. So it goes I give up.

15:05

Or the it's asking for the pump to be

15:08

switched on and it's not pumping. So,

15:11

we've either got to fill it with oil and

15:13

it will work.

15:14

>> Yeah.

15:15

>> Or the pump's broke and we're going to

15:18

have to ask Matty rem to sell us one

15:21

>> or find off a pat. So, now we can see

15:23

that the pump has some kind of fault,

15:25

but we're trying to work out whether it

15:27

actually works. So, we're going to see

15:28

if we can turn it on remotely. Okay, we

15:31

need to get that pump to turn on. So, if

15:33

I turn it off,

15:37

>> no transmission. Pump on.

15:40

Pump off. So, the pump did come on.

15:44

>> Pump's on. Pump's on. Pump off.

15:46

>> The pump didn't want to stay on, which

15:48

is weird. And what about the pressure?

15:52

No pressure is being built up. Look. And

15:54

without this pressure, it's not going to

15:56

be able to shift into gear. Okay.

16:01

Could be a faulty pump cuz it's going on

16:03

and off and on and off. Could be cuz

16:05

it's got no fluid in it. We also have no

16:07

coolant. We also have a coolant leak and

16:09

we also have a misfire. There's lots of

16:12

faults that we need to solve here. And

16:15

to do any of it to do any of it, we need

16:19

to get this back bit off because the

16:22

coolant tank is here. If it's like the

16:24

Chiron and I think the transmission

16:26

stuff is over there. If we could find

16:29

out how this has happened, it would give

16:32

us [music] a way better insight onto

16:36

what [music] we need to look for. Do you

16:38

know if we if the if someone's already

16:40

diagnosed this problem, we're not going

16:41

to be chasing around the car for a

16:42

problem that somebody's [music] already

16:44

diagnosed. We should make some phone

16:46

calls and do a bit of Googling before we

16:48

go anywhere else.

17:00

Now, after doing a bit of research, I

17:02

found that this Bugatti Veyron used to

17:04

be on the registration plate 1 [music]

17:07

MCY, which helped us find a few videos

17:09

of it online without the wrap. But then,

17:12

strangely, on top of that, we saw

17:15

[music] this photo. This is a photo of

17:18

Mark's Bugatti Veyron with the gearbox

17:20

problem with my Bugatti Veyron parked

17:23

behind it, which now also has a gearbox

17:25

problem as well. It just seems too much

17:27

of a coincidence [music] that those two

17:29

were together and they both have similar

17:32

issues. So, we had to get on the phone.

17:35

>> Hello, Matthew.

17:36

>> Hi, Mark.

17:39

>> You all right?

17:40

>> How's your bag?

17:42

>> Uh, broke. [laughter]

17:44

>> Well, snap.

17:47

Because look at this.

17:50

There's there's two people in the

17:53

Midlands now with Bugattis.

17:56

That is Oh, mate. Congratulations. That

17:59

is beautiful.

18:00

>> It is unreal. After a while of speaking

18:03

to Mark and showing him round the

18:05

Bugatti, I then explain what we've found

18:07

out. Both of them have broken gearboxes.

18:10

Both of them have misfires. And we now

18:13

have a theory that both of them were

18:16

together at some point.

18:19

>> Yeah. Like honestly, the story is scary

18:21

because that's nearly identical to what

18:24

mine [music] was. Real really?

18:27

>> What? Like a repossession?

18:29

>> Yeah.

18:32

[laughter]

18:33

>> Oh my days.

18:35

>> The at some stage my car was almost

18:38

pawned.

18:39

>> So it was taken somewhere for money

18:43

>> and then the owner I don't know who it

18:45

was cuz it was it was back before the

18:48

guy who I bought it off

18:49

>> somewhere along the line. Um [music] the

18:52

guy never collected the car because he

18:54

never brought the money and then the car

18:55

was obviously changed hands because he

18:58

never came back on the dead. If

18:59

>> it is the per if it is the same owner

19:02

then they must drive it a certain way to

19:03

break the gearbox.

19:05

>> But everyone keeps on telling me like

19:06

these cars are bulletproof.

19:08

>> Yeah.

19:08

>> And then everyone keeps on sending me

19:10

pictures and videos of broken gearboxes.

19:12

So I don't know.

19:13

>> How far have you got with your gearbox

19:16

situation?

19:18

So, it's still in Holland at the minute

19:20

and we're sort of like in the midst of

19:23

pressure testing, which I might be able

19:24

to help with you as well. But I've

19:27

actually had a message from somebody and

19:28

I might be able to buy another gearbox.

19:32

>> What a second what just as a spare

19:35

gearbox, a working one.

19:36

>> Long story short, some guy in Australia

19:39

has got two damaged cars. He's going to

19:42

make one out of the two, but there's a

19:44

spare gear box which a guy has bought

19:47

and he's in Malaga in Spain and it's the

19:50

right money. And worse comes to worse, I

19:52

might have it as a coffee table.

19:54

[laughter]

19:55

>> So, the story behind both of these

19:57

Bugattis is [music] strange, but there's

19:59

no real answer to any of the problems.

20:02

So, I guess that leaves me trying to

20:04

diagnose and repair [music] this myself.

20:07

I don't even know where to start. We've

20:09

got the misfire. We've got the coolant

20:11

leak and we've got the shifting into no

20:13

gears. The most expensive one to me

20:15

sounds like the [music] shifting into no

20:17

gears. So, I'd like to try and solve

20:18

that first. But to do any of that to

20:21

access the engine, we need to get this

20:23

engine cover off. And I know exactly how

20:26

to do it because I'm a big tech who

20:28

watches YouTube. [music]

20:29

Let's get it off. So, to do this, we

20:32

remove this seal around here, which

20:34

allows us access to [music] a load of 10

20:37

mil bolts. I know this because I've

20:39

already seen it on YouTube before. You

20:41

don't actually have to take out the 10

20:43

ms, just loosen them. Then [music]

20:44

there's one T30 in the center. And then

20:46

there's two multi-torx, one each side of

20:49

the wing. I've undone one. Then Liam's

20:52

going to undo the other one. I'm then

20:53

just going to lower the wing to move it

20:54

out the way. And the back panel should

20:57

come off. Yes.

20:58

>> Once we've [music] disconnected the rear

20:59

lights, [laughter]

21:08

Why is it talking? [laughter]

21:12

It's going, "Please help me."

21:14

>> I'm broken. What is it doing?

21:29

Going to start again. [laughter]

21:37

Yeah. Now we can see the coolant tank.

21:41

Says we got low coolant.

21:44

>> Anything in there?

21:45

>> Yeah,

21:46

>> there is.

21:47

>> Yeah.

21:48

>> Oh, yeah. It has got a bit in there,

21:49

isn't it?

21:51

>> The thing is, we know it's got a leak

21:52

from the front. And I've got a suspicion

21:54

of where it's coming from. Look in

21:56

there. You can see it's wet on the

21:59

bottom of this rad right there. But

22:03

where we think it's really bad is on

22:06

this side

22:10

where you can see bits of pink droplets

22:12

on it. And the only explanation I can

22:15

think of this is that a stone's gone in

22:17

there and just pierced it a tiny bit.

22:20

That could be a really really slow leak,

22:22

but

22:24

I know we shouldn't really put water in

22:27

it because it's going to come back out

22:28

anyway. But I would be interested just

22:29

to top it up with some water to see if

22:31

that brings the coolant light off the

22:33

dash.

22:38

>> Perfect.

22:39

>> Wa. Okay,

22:42

let's see.

22:48

There she is.

22:50

H

22:52

there must be another coolant tank or

22:55

that is a completely separate issue.

22:59

There is another coolant tank on the

23:01

Chiron. There was a separate reservoir

23:04

and that was tucked away here and this

23:06

reservoir was the coolant which is used

23:08

to cool the turbos on the car. So surely

23:11

just like the Chiron, the Veyron has

23:14

something similar. [music] We've just

23:15

got to find the separate expansion tank

23:17

for it, which we think might be under

23:20

one of these.

23:22

[music]

23:25

Ah, interesting. Right, here we go. This

23:27

is going to solve one problem. Well,

23:30

temporarily [music] until it leaks out

23:32

the front. And weirdly, it did have

23:35

coolant in it, but it was just below the

23:38

minimum. [music]

23:38

>> Min and max. The tolerance is that

23:42

little.

23:42

>> Okay. Right. Let's top that up. Please

23:45

let us solve one problem. It's going to

23:47

come straight out the front rad. [music]

23:49

We know that. But if the light comes

23:51

off, at least we know where the problem

23:53

is. So, we topped it up.

23:56

Are we going to solve one problem?

23:59

Let's see if the coolant light comes

24:00

off. I'm really intrigued. And also,

24:03

I've got more insights on the engine,

24:06

the misfire.

24:10

Now the engine was misfiring bad,

24:12

especially from cold start, but yeah, no

24:16

cooler light.

24:18

Yes. Yes. Come on. We fixed one thing

24:21

and it was easier to an extent. We still

24:24

got a leaking radiator though. Now, next

24:26

thing I wanted to do is get the Veyron

24:28

in the air to check for any leaks

24:30

because if you remember right, when the

24:32

SVJ couldn't get any gears, [music] it

24:34

was actually leaking the shifter fluid

24:36

out of one of the solenoids on the

24:38

gearbox. And if the Veyron is doing the

24:40

same, that would explain why the pump

24:43

can't build up any pressure.

24:47

Bad news is no visual leaks yet, but the

24:49

whole thing is an under tray.

24:52

>> Now, from the underneath of the car, you

24:55

could definitely tell it's been driven.

24:58

>> It's like it's not been looked after.

24:59

>> It's just like a British car. Yeah. It's

25:01

just like any British car. Like, you

25:04

know, if it was in Florida, that would

25:06

all be clean.

25:08

sweat and salty in it is is it's a

25:10

typical British car like he's drove it

25:13

>> daily. You'd expect it to be shiny for a

25:16

Bugatti, but at the same time I feel

25:18

like he's drove it all the time. But I

25:20

think, you know, like with a bit of dry

25:21

ice, it would come up mint.

25:23

>> The next step was just to start removing

25:26

all of the under trays and some of which

25:28

had active arrow on which is

25:30

hydraulically controlled. Got it. We had

25:33

to disconnect some of the lines and then

25:36

start undoing [music]

25:37

the millions of bolts which hold this

25:39

under tray to the bottom of the car. And

25:41

the more we undid, the more we seen how

25:44

much TLC this car really needed. As the

25:47

car lift blocked a lot of the under

25:48

tray, we had to lower it to the floor to

25:50

do the [music] last final bolts and then

25:51

lift it back up, leaving the under trays

25:53

on the floor. And now we can pull them

25:56

out. [music] Here it is. Active Arrow on

25:58

a 2006 car. And underneath all the

26:02

trays, [music] everything's looking a

26:04

little ruster. These are the solenoids

26:06

that we were worried about, whether I

26:08

was thinking that they were going to be

26:09

leaking, but no leaks, which makes this

26:13

a harder job for me. It's completely

26:15

dry, isn't it? [music] This is really

26:17

confusing now because there's no obvious

26:19

signs where, oh, come on, [music] let me

26:23

find something, please. with nothing

26:25

being obvious there. I lowered the car

26:27

down just to try one other thing with

26:29

the gearbox.

26:32

So, okay. So, I took this out and here's

26:36

the cable.

26:38

When I turn that, you should be able to

26:41

rotate all the wheels forward

26:43

>> because this cable should put the car

26:45

into neutral.

26:48

That should be in neutral now.

26:50

>> Spin the wheels. Yes,

26:52

>> we're in neutral,

26:53

>> which is good news because it means that

26:54

the gearbox isn't mechanically seized

26:57

and both the wheels spin.

26:59

>> Yes, sir.

27:00

>> That's good news.

27:01

>> So, it's not mechanically stuck in. It's

27:04

nothing's wedged. I'm going to start it

27:06

now,

27:13

but still no gears.

27:17

>> It's so weird. We know the shifter works

27:20

cuz we send that on the auto. It sends a

27:22

signal.

27:23

>> We know the shifter works.

27:24

>> This is something we tested earlier just

27:26

to make sure the shifter was sending a

27:28

signal.

27:30

>> Neutral

27:31

reverse. So the shifter

27:35

is communicating with the car

27:38

>> and then we now know that it will

27:40

manually shift from neutral to park.

27:44

But what what's not happening is when

27:45

you send the signal, it's not engaging

27:47

the gear. So, the hunt for why the car

27:50

doesn't go into gear continues. But

27:52

another thing on my mind is the misfire

27:55

as well. And it seems to be a lot worse

27:57

from cold start.

28:03

And one thing that I haven't heard power

28:05

up are the secondary air pumps. Now,

28:08

when you first start up your car, the

28:10

catalytic converters are cold, so they

28:12

don't work as efficiently. So, what the

28:14

secondary air pump does is pump air into

28:18

the exhaust system, which then helps

28:20

heat up the catalytic converter quickly,

28:22

so the air coming out of the exhaust is

28:25

more cleaner. Now, earlier I noticed

28:28

that I didn't hear these secondary air

28:29

pumps power up when I put the ignition

28:32

on in the car. And I did have a look on

28:34

the auto to see if I could get them to

28:36

power up separately. Secondary air

28:38

injection pump relay.

28:40

But when I clicked activate, it said it

28:43

was running, but nothing was turning on.

28:46

But I didn't think this was much of a

28:48

problem as I couldn't see a reason why

28:50

this would cause a misfire, [music] but

28:52

that was until I called Ricky from RE

28:54

Performance about it.

28:56

>> Hello.

28:57

>> Hi. I think it's something Well, I I

28:59

originally thought it was something to

29:00

do with vacuum or something along those

29:03

lines, but I didn't know whether you had

29:05

any like ideas of going Oh, yeah. I know

29:07

on these Volkswagens cold start. What?

29:10

>> No, not not cold start so much. I mean,

29:12

yeah, you might have a vac leak or if

29:15

your secondary airs leaking

29:17

>> the

29:18

>> what? Those those little air pumps the

29:20

>> Yeah.

29:21

>> the So, if they leak that can cause like

29:23

a misfire from from cold start.

29:25

>> Yeah. Yeah.

29:26

>> Right. Okay.

29:28

>> Basically, what happens then is you get

29:29

an exhaust leak. And this can happen

29:31

because when the secondary air pump

29:33

turns on to allow that air to flow into

29:36

the exhaust, a solenoid opens up a valve

29:39

to allow the air to flow through. Now,

29:42

if that solenoid is opening up the valve

29:44

to allow the air to flow through, but

29:45

the secondary air pump isn't working,

29:48

then the exhaust fumes coming out of the

29:50

exhaust are going to flow back up that

29:52

chamber and out [music] of the secondary

29:55

air pump, which would cause a misfire

29:57

because the lambber sensors in the

29:58

exhaust are getting a false reading.

30:01

We're all on the agreement that it's

30:03

something to do with air vacuum or

30:05

something along those lines. It's just

30:07

where is it coming from? Check

30:09

solenoids. Um, and the air pumps is one

30:13

thing I haven't heard. I haven't heard

30:15

these things. They normally make a

30:17

really loud worring sound from Cold

30:19

Star, and I haven't heard them. So, what

30:21

I'm going to do now is test them by

30:24

sending power directly to it. There we

30:26

go.

30:28

And this one worked. So, the secondary

30:30

air pump works that side. There's four

30:33

though. And the two on the other side

30:35

were really difficult to get to. So

30:37

instead of trying to fight it, I decided

30:40

to just take them off so I could test

30:42

them off the car.

30:45

Yes.

30:47

Please let that be the fault. Please,

30:50

please be broken because that would mean

30:53

I'm good.

30:58

There's no way I've done that for no

31:00

reason.

31:07

Ow. That wire is really hot.

31:13

Both of them work. We haven't we haven't

31:16

heard them when they've started up. So,

31:18

it potentially they might the relays

31:20

might not be flicking them on. So, all

31:23

the air pumps work, but whatever's

31:25

telling them to turn them on clearly

31:27

isn't working. So, I called over Dips,

31:29

who has a more in-depth diagnostic tool,

31:31

who can plug into the Veyron and see if

31:34

he can get the secondary air pumps to

31:36

turn on remotely. But whilst I was about

31:38

to do that, I gave Carl Hartley a call

31:40

because if anyone's going to know

31:41

anything about Bugattis in the UK, it's

31:44

going to be Carl. I think you're the guy

31:47

to speak to about this.

31:49

>> Okay, hit me with it. [laughter] You

31:51

done?

31:52

>> Do you know this car?

31:55

>> Uh, yes, I do know that car. [laughter]

31:56

actually tried to buy that car.

31:58

>> Did you really? Okay. What do you know

32:01

about it?

32:02

>> Do you know what I think has happened

32:04

putting two and two together here? So,

32:08

uh, the guy who had that car had it for

32:11

a while.

32:12

>> Yeah.

32:12

>> Used it a lot. Now, I think the guy

32:15

probably thought it's easier to have

32:18

this car repossessed off the finance

32:21

company than it is to fit the bill to

32:22

keep it on the road.

32:24

>> This is what we're thinking. That's

32:26

exactly what we're thinking.

32:27

>> I don't I know that car. I knew the

32:29

owner. Um he used it a lot. I doubt it

32:32

would have had the problem by sitting.

32:34

It didn't sit very much.

32:36

>> Right. Right. Okay. That makes that

32:38

makes it. And another thing is I called

32:40

Mark and we have put two and two

32:42

together and there's actually a photo of

32:43

his car and this car together. Did

32:48

>> Yeah. So same guy same guy owned both.

32:51

[laughter]

32:51

>> No. So, the puzzle pieces are coming

32:54

together and we're finding more history

32:56

about the Veyron. But at least it's

32:58

nothing sinister. And I'm sure if it

33:00

was, it would have showed up on the car

33:02

vertical check. For example, if it was

33:04

damaged, it might have showed me photos

33:06

of the car when it was auctioned off. So

33:08

remember, before buying a car, if you

33:10

want to find out the history of it,

33:12

click the link in the description box

33:13

below. Use car vertical [music]

33:15

and also use my discount code on the

33:18

screen right now, which will save you a

33:19

bit of money on that check. I am current

33:22

number 12.

33:24

Uh, cylinder 13, electrical malfunction,

33:27

open circuit.

33:28

>> So, right now, Dips has plugged his

33:30

computer into the car, and Ricky from RE

33:32

Performance is remotely logged into it,

33:35

and he's going to see if he can get the

33:36

secondary air pump to start up using the

33:39

tool.

33:40

>> It's on. It's going.

33:41

>> No, no.

33:42

>> Right.

33:43

>> No.

33:44

>> Should just be going click, click,

33:45

click, click, click, click. Nothing.

33:48

>> Nothing.

33:48

>> But nothing was happening. And by

33:50

chance, I wanted to see if it could turn

33:52

on the gearbox pump as well. Can you

33:55

turn that pump on?

33:57

>> Uh, yeah, I can. Yeah. Two seconds.

34:00

>> Can you hear the pump run?

34:02

>> The secondary air pump.

34:03

>> Uh, gearbox.

34:05

>> What? What? Now?

34:07

>> Yeah. I can hear the gearbox pressure

34:09

run.

34:09

>> I can't hear it when it's running. It's

34:11

like

34:11

>> Okay.

34:12

>> When when we got the ignition on, I can

34:14

hear it.

34:15

>> So, the gearbox sinks and pressure

34:17

relays running. Why?

34:19

>> So, the relay's on. So, it thinks the

34:21

pump's running. That's why you get any

34:23

error because then it will go, "Oh,

34:25

yeah." Like, no pressure.

34:27

>> So, Ricky can see on his laptop that the

34:29

car thinks the pump's running, but no

34:31

pressure is building up. And I can't

34:34

hear the pump [music] actually going.

34:35

So, could this all be an electrical

34:37

fault? Okay.

34:40

>> Like at the minute there, it says pump

34:41

off. So, what you need to do is you need

34:43

to figure out at the pump whether you

34:47

can get it to switch on.

34:49

>> So, the other thing is that if I've got

34:51

a faulty relay for

34:53

>> Yeah.

34:53

>> for the secondary air pump because I

34:56

can't we can't get that to go on

34:58

>> then and we've got a faulty Is there

35:00

potential it could be a faulty relay for

35:02

also the pump for the gearbox?

35:05

>> Yeah, chances are you've got a load of

35:07

faulty relays. is more likely that the

35:10

main so the primary side the relay

35:13

control is probably fed off one or two

35:16

fuses and you've probably blown one big

35:18

fuse.

35:19

>> Thanks Ricker.

35:21

>> No worries. You're welcome.

35:22

>> And that is Ricky at RE Performance.

35:24

Right. Good news and bad news then. We

35:27

thought we could hear the pump. Turns

35:29

out we can't. And the pump doesn't seem

35:32

to be pumping. The secondary air pumps

35:34

also ain't pumping. So the chances of

35:37

two relays going is slim, but if

35:40

someone's jump started the car or done

35:42

something like that and it's had a

35:43

little surge, there's a possibility. So

35:45

this again could come down to a tiny

35:50

fuse or a tiny relay. And if it is, I

35:53

have got one hell of a bargain here. All

35:55

the fuses are in here. Were there any

35:58

behind the seat? Do you know? Can you

35:59

remember when we took Alex's shoe on

36:01

apart? Were there any fuses behind the

36:03

seat?

36:04

>> I don't think so. It was just that panel

36:06

was velcroed on.

36:10

>> Yeah, that was it. There was nothing

36:11

that that that was it. So, I think

36:13

they're all here for the car. So, I know

36:16

there's a little hatch,

36:18

but I think these are going to be little

36:20

fuses for small things, but Ricky seems

36:23

to think that if it's going to be a

36:25

probably going to be a big fuse or a big

36:27

relay, which I think is going to be

36:28

inside that. But before we start, we

36:31

might as well check these and go through

36:32

everything. And if we can find a faulty

36:34

fuse, we're looking good. Now, because

36:36

there's not much information out there

36:38

about Veyrons, we don't actually have a

36:40

fuse diagram. So, we don't know what

36:42

each fuse we're checking for actually

36:45

does. But there's no harm in checking

36:47

each individual one, which is what I was

36:49

doing now.

36:50

>> Good. [bell] Good. [music]

36:53

>> And most of them seem good.

36:55

>> Good.

36:56

>> Until I got to one. [music] Okay.

37:01

Oh,

37:03

I found it. [music] I found it. Oh dear.

37:07

One of the fuses had completely melted

37:10

into the actual fuse box. And it looks

37:13

like it had even caused damage to the

37:15

one next to it. That 40 amp ain't meant

37:18

to be a 40 amp. And someone's put in

37:20

[music] a bigger amp fuse and that's

37:22

melted it. If I put a 30 amp in there, I

37:25

guar well well we don't know what amp

37:28

what amp that fuse is going to be. But

37:30

that looks I've never seen a 40 amp mini

37:32

fuse. [music] I've never seen one. But

37:35

judging by the look of that that's

37:37

melted. The only reason someone's put a

37:40

40 amp in there is because it probably

37:43

would have been popping 10 [music] amps,

37:44

20 amps, 30 amps, and they've just kept

37:46

putting fuses in until until one's

37:51

worked and then they've gone, "Oh,

37:52

that's worked." [music] But they've not

37:53

they've completely ignored that cuz I

37:55

was about to say the same thing. I was

37:56

like if a fuse is gone there's a reason

37:58

why [music] it's gone. So that is not

38:01

good. That could have caused a fire.

38:03

>> So we've got to find out where that fuse

38:05

goes to because that's the source of our

38:07

problem.

38:08

>> It's [music] it's melted the one next to

38:11

it. It's melted the one next to it as

38:13

well. Oh,

38:16

okay. So this is the one next to it.

38:18

What are the chances that the one next

38:22

to it is secondary air pump

38:25

and the one that's 40 amp is gearbox

38:29

pump. It's melted the secondary air pump

38:31

one and the gearbox pump one is [music]

38:33

on fire for some reason.

38:36

>> But why would they break?

38:39

>> That's the question.

38:41

That is the question.

38:43

>> [music]

38:44

>> To get better access to the fuses, I

38:46

removed the wheel arch lining and

38:48

everything inside the [music] wheel

38:50

arch. That way, I can access the fuse

38:52

box from underneath. Then, I was going

38:54

to remove the top to make sure that

38:56

there was no other damage inside that

38:58

box. Everything seemed okay behind it.

39:00

All I had to do now is pull that fuse

39:02

out of the box. That ain't even a fuse

39:05

anymore. That fuse is not fusing. That's

39:08

a bridge. The whole idea of a fuse is

39:10

that it pops if something on the circuit

39:12

isn't quite working right. But if

39:14

someone's putting a bigger amp fuse in

39:16

[music] every time it pops, it's just

39:18

going to create more and more heat.

39:20

Right.

39:25

We could send 12 Yeah, we could send 12

39:28

volts to it, right?

39:32

And see what it powers up or what tries

39:35

to power it up.

39:36

>> I think that would be perfect. But then

39:37

we and then we don't have to put the

39:39

ignition on because I think this will

39:41

come on with the ignition cuz what if we

39:43

put a fuse in it and then we turn the

39:46

ignition on the fuse might just blow

39:48

straight away. I think I think you know

39:50

what let's do it for for now. 20 amps.

39:55

20 amp. They cannot touch together. We

39:59

just need to hear if we hear anything

40:02

different. Well, no. I think the

40:04

ignition's going to go on. In fact, I

40:06

was going to say it now. I open the

40:07

door. That fuse is blowing.

40:09

>> You think?

40:09

>> Yeah. Ready to see if it pops in.

40:12

>> Matt's about to open the door.

40:14

>> Ready?

40:14

>> Yeah.

40:16

>> The pump.

40:19

>> It's working.

40:20

>> It's working. The gearbox pump started

40:24

working

40:24

>> and it hasn't blown

40:25

>> and it stopped.

40:29

Oh,

40:31

I don't think it's getting pressure, is

40:32

it? And that's why that's probably

40:34

getting really hot cuz it keeps trying.

40:36

It keeps trying. The gearbox pump is

40:38

meant to turn on until it gets to a

40:40

certain pressure. Then it will turn off

40:42

again. Or is it building pressure up?

40:45

But this pump kept going. So it was

40:48

worried that it might blow the fuse

40:49

again. Do you think [music] that built

40:51

pressure up?

40:52

>> Do you think that's why it stopped?

40:56

>> Imagine if it goes into gear [music] or

40:57

not.

40:57

>> But I can't it. This can't. That's got

41:00

to have blown for some reason. But it

41:02

ain't blown now, is it?

41:05

Right. Let me open the door again.

41:10

>> The pump still worked.

41:12

>> Fuse still good.

41:13

>> And the fuse was [music] still good.

41:17

>> Fuse is good.

41:19

>> And it ain't Oh my god, it's going to

41:21

get

41:22

>> it. Well, it stopped making the noise.

41:24

It stopped.

41:24

>> And the pump sounded different. Remember

41:26

on the SVJ when it built up pressure, it

41:28

went

41:30

it the pump sounded different.

41:32

>> Have we fixed it?

41:33

>> Is this going to go into gear? No way.

41:36

No way. No way. No way. No way. No way.

41:38

No.

41:39

>> If it's just a fuse, that'd be crazy.

41:46

[laughter]

41:47

I've just got into neutral. Wait, wait,

41:49

wait. No way. Park. No.

41:56

No way. No way. No way. No way. I'm

41:58

literally shaking now.

42:00

>> There's no way.

42:01

>> It was just a fuse.

42:02

>> No,

42:04

there's no There's no way I'm shaking. I

42:07

wanted to stop.

42:08

>> Let me [music] go up on the ramp. Let me

42:09

go up on the ramp. Wait there. Wait

42:10

there. Wait there.

42:14

>> This little fuse is what's fixed that

42:16

gearbox. That is insane.

42:19

>> There's no way starting. I want to know.

42:21

I want to know. I want to know.

42:29

Yeah,

42:35

it's moving. It's moving.

42:39

[crying]

42:39

It's working.

42:41

>> The Bugatti went into gear.

42:46

>> The fuse is all good. There's no way.

42:51

There's [music] absolutely no way.

42:56

All the wheels are moving.

42:58

No way.

43:05

What? [laughter]

43:07

There's 300 £300,000 it is for a new

43:10

gearbox. And I just got a fuse from

43:12

Halford's. There's no way. It can't be

43:15

that. I I think we've done it.

43:17

>> You've definitely won. Put it that way.

43:20

There's no way. I can't believe it. I

43:23

don't even know what to say. [laughter]

43:25

But like, it doesn't make sense. Why is

43:26

the fuse gone? And then I've just put a

43:28

30 amp in and it's working. Unless

43:31

someone unless it's surged from someone

43:34

jumping it or something. But that looks

43:35

like it's been burnt out for a while.

43:38

This car

43:40

wasn't as cheap as Mark's car. So, which

43:43

was 900. But this car wasn't over a

43:46

million pounds. And it's

43:50

flaming running and driving now. Right

43:53

now, it is my dream to drive this car to

43:57

Monaco for the summer. And I think it's

43:59

going to actually happen. It's going to

44:01

actually happen. It needs a tar up. It

44:04

needs a service. It needs a good going

44:06

over. And there's still a misfire. But

44:09

right now I've got a

44:14

[laughter]

44:15

Right now I've got a Bugatti Veyron

44:18

with a working gearbox which was just a

44:22

fuse. What the hell? There's so much

44:25

more to unfold. I think there is going

44:27

to be so much more to unfold. It's a

44:29

double win as well because my t-shirt is

44:31

sick. Look at this t-shirt.

44:32

>> That is pretty sick.

44:33

>> That is pretty sick. The link is in

44:35

description for this t-shirt. I've got a

44:37

flipping Bugatti Veyron with a working

44:41

gearbox right now. Thanks so much for

44:44

watching this video. If you've enjoyed

44:45

it, hit the subscribe button, hit that

44:47

thumbs up button, and I think right now

44:49

we can certify ourselves as Bri.

44:52

See you in the next video. Peace [music]

44:54

out.

44:56

>> Stay.

44:57

>> Nice.

44:58

>> You need to have it done at a Bugatti

45:00

service center. They use specialized

45:02

equipment to measure the oil level

45:04

accurately. So for that Veyron, it's all

45:06

about keeping it as high-tech as the

45:08

rest of the car.

45:09

>> Corrupted chat GBZ as well.

45:12

like a [music] trumpet.
