This is our school. This is where

0:09

school P6. I'm Shannon. I'm Molly. I'm

0:13

age nine and we are in D primary. My

0:16

name is Holly and I'm the class teacher

0:18

at Dur Primary School. We are in the

0:20

west coast of Scotland in the Highlands

0:22

and we're a uniquely small school with

0:25

just two pupils.

0:27

We're really close. We we mostly do

0:31

everything all together kind of every

0:34

day. Uh we play in school and after

0:36

school we're best friends. Best friends.

0:40

It is wonderful. Not many people get

0:43

this opportunity as a teacher and I

0:44

don't think everybody would like it, but

0:46

I absolutely love it. I love the

0:50

flexibility and the freedom for going

0:52

out and exploring. If the weather's

0:54

good, yeah, we can go and do our work

0:56

down at the beach. We don't have to stay

0:57

in the classroom.

0:59

Go here about once or twice a week. We

1:03

like to go down to the water after we're

1:06

done all of our lessons. We get to

1:09

do math, spelling, stories. We make up

1:13

our own stories.

1:15

We all sit down and eat lunch together.

1:18

It's a really special teacher pupil

1:21

relationship. You get to know them

1:23

really well. You don't just have them

1:24

for one year.

1:26

Miss Grace prints pictures out of us

1:29

that we've done and um she sticks us in

1:32

this big book that we have. We are

1:35

learning how to do CPR. That's our

1:37

friends that we had on Mark. That's when

1:40

we went to the beach and my wellie boots

1:42

nearly got swept away.

1:44

On paper, it's two children. In reality,

1:47

it's the whole community. We have so

1:50

many more children in the school

1:52

throughout the week with toddler group

1:53

and with our nurture group.

1:55

I think the fact that we have managed to

1:57

keep it open and keep it going shows

1:59

like what you can do with a small school

2:00

and why they're important not just as a

2:03

school but within the wider community.

2:06

We wanted this to stay open because

2:09

obviously I've been here for most of my

2:11

life. It's such a nice school and I

2:15

think people should really go here cuz

2:17

it's such a good school and I would

2:19

never want it to close. But not too many

2:22

people please.
